Anyone figured out why insurance companies dont like noisy pipes? My premium would go up by a good few quid if I declared to CN that I had a race can on the bike.( Which I dont at the moment but would like to) The Renegade tickles my fancy but I would like to hear one again...so if anyone has any clips...PM me please!

They are illegal (break noise regulations I think), that's why they don't like them.

well most of them add a premium IF you declare it. the reason behind it is simple . . . .make money.

in realilty they dont add alot of power to the bike. they dont cause accidents and they dont make that much noise compared to other bikes (stand next to a harley standard when it starts up) and they make you more noticable - reducing risk of an addicent (surely this should reduce your premium) and they are much cheaper to replace than the standard can.

so make some sense of it if you will :)

There's 2 justifications... One is that a modified bike is more nickable... Makes more sense for a thief to steal a bike with £700 worth of Akrapovic system haning off the side, especially since it's an easy part to shift and generally won't be datatagged even if the bike is. This, I have to admit, makes sense.

The other is that people who modify their bikes are usually seen as higher crash risks... (I'm not saying that's right, just that that's the justification)

It's definately not to do with power gains- Mine charged me extra for the exhaust but couldn't care less about the cams, even though they add at least as much if not more power. I asked them for their charge if I fitted a 30bhp nitrous system (for a laugh) and the increase in premium was £4 a month :)

The real clincher is if your parts are covered- some policies don't cover aftermarket parts, even if they'll happily charge you extra for having them. Aftermarket parts don't add much to resale value either so if they use that method to decide your replacement value you're bund to lose out...

My insurance hasn't increased even though I have declared my full system, airbox mod and PC3, (bird on the phone had no idea what a PC was) and that going through CN. :)

As long as the can is road legal they didn't mind, so now I have the baffle out, in the event of a spill and a visit from an inspector all I need do is put the baffle in.

Im insured through CN and i have informed them of my Scorpion can with baffle removed and there was no increase in premium. all they wanted to know was the power increase. 8)

In Australia they didn't charge more. However after telling them how much the can was the next insurance certificate had the same agreed value but a comment saying that it included the accessories.
After having a disagreement with a rock wall and the bike being a "repairable writeoff" I was told that if my rack and can were NOT listed on the policy I could have got them back free of charge...
Needless to say my new bike will be stock standard according to them

Which system do you have fitted? I'm just looking at and end can.

Mines an Akrapovic, lovely sound with or with out the baffles (without being much better).

There are so many end cans nowadays that have removable baffles it seems daft to buy one without them, what with the need to swap the cans over come MOT or track days with Db regs.
