HiI all,
Got home tonight to find a piece of the wall that my pride and joy is chained to on the floor  .
I know it has NOT been windy her today by any stretch of the imagination, so I am guessing some little **** has been to have a look at the bike today :x :x :x
I guess the 2 dogs put them off, good dogs  .
So, I was looking in copies of MCN and Ride n others for the "steel bike garage" thing. I think they're about 500 quid.
But can I rememebr the name of em..nope!
Can you you let me know please?

i want one too but its a question of priorities... :(
Hmmm, I wonder if their infrared alarms could be set up in a 'normal' garage too?
Is criminal behaviour normal? it's nice to keep my bike out of weather
To be honest, where I live is generally OK, but our garage is at the back of the house, down at the bottom of the garden. It faces away from the house and onto the access road which serves the back of the houses on our street and those on the main road.
Ideal for twocking and teenage smoking as there's little really that directly overlooks it.
Someone did try to jimmy the lock a few years back when I last had a bike. A GS that sat unsued in there for 18 months before I eventually relented and sold it. Though we have got additional security bars on the inside I'd rather have something down there that would wake both me and the dog up if someone did manage to get in.

if its at the bottom of your garden, cant u fit a burgular alarm sensor in the garage, extend the wire so it reaches back to the house and either have it connected into your origional house alarm, or have one fitted for the garage???

That sounds like the start of a deep philosophical dscussion right there.
The house doesn't have an alarm... and though the garage has power, we only rent so I'd rather not install anything permanent I can't take if I move. (Even though we've lived here for 5 years now!)
That and I'm just desparately now trying to find the funds for a track bike I viewed today... ZX6R mmmmmmm.
£1500 and somewhere to put it required early please Santa!

you can get a cheapy alarm from ARGOS for about £30-£50 and just install it yourself!
then all you need to do, is go to a hardware store and buy alarm wire to extend it.
It realy is as simple as that sounds :)
The house doesn't have an alarm... and though the garage has power, we only rent so I'd rather not install anything permanent I can't take if I move.
A couple of solutions spring to mind.
Either a wireless PIR (movement) detector in the garage and a receiver in the house, only downside is you have to change batteries every now and then.
Or there are sensors which send the signal back up the mains cable to a receiver plugged into an ordinary mains socket in the house, so you don't need extra wiring.
Either way you take them with you when you move.
I don't know enough detail of either to recommend any specific hardware, but something you could enquire about further perhaps?
Cool guys, thanks for that.
Espescially as my brother's just said he's interested in perhaps going halves with me on the ZX6R... so I'll have two bikes and my MGB squeezed in there to look after!
The bike garage thingy, did anyone see the one at the NEC? The bike was on a sort of stand that slid in and out of the garage. Looked well good, though can't remember the price.
You need a ground anchor for about £100. Alarms etc don't stop the bike getting nicked.
Chain the dogs to the bike

The thought had crossed my mind though! I can't believe the cheek of the little ****s.
There are a number of places that do this sort of bike safe.
Bike Safe (themsleves) about 500 - 600 quid
Euromoto - they do the full monty Secure-A-Bike - looks the bollox and about 1300 - 1600 quid
And then theres a sheetmetal place that does em for about 500 quid.
I have given them all an option at the moment.
The bike safe one looks good and has the MCN or Ride recommendation.
Don't know if it's sold secure though :?
Anyway, will let you know how it goes and if the little fuquers turn up again, I WILL BE LETTING THE DOGS OUT!

That sounds like the start of a deep philosophical dscussion right there.
I only say that cause the key for any of my bikes only comes out of the ignition to unlock the gas cap, my barn it in doesn't even have a lock, and usually the door is left open. when I go riding and park somehere, I usually leave the key in the ignition, gear on the bike etc.
I always looked at it, locks only keep honest people from stealing your property, I don't lock my house and I leave keys in all my vehicles
from a a lot of threads here it sounds like criminal behavior is rampant, I guess I can't comprehend living where I would have to keep my posessions under lock and key

Let me put you straight on that matter then.
I guess you live somewhere other than the UK?
I'f it's not locked, chained,or screwed down then it's free to some scum!
Some people make a profession out of it - literally
And some are that good, they'd have your eyes out your sockets!
And peel an orange in their pocket with the other.
As for leaving the keys in things - and leaving the house open
Are you mad!
If you did that in some parts of the UK you'd be cleaned out in seconds.
Some are that hard faced they'd do it whilst you were sat there watchin'
Lesson over!
That's why we have such high insurnace premiums, and insurance companies are so rich
i know this dont help when your at work, but i was rweading a mag the other day and there was this bloke who keeps a baby monitour in his garage next to his bike at night so he can hear if anyone breaks in.

Woke up this morning to find someone had tried to steal my bike.
I am currently building a large shed at the bottom of the back garden, but
of course someone has to try and steal the bike before I have the shed finished. For now its chained to the wall with a ground anchor. Made me feel a bit vulnerable so I have fitted a second anchor and chain. Also locked drive gates and blocked access to side of the house with the car. Better hurry up and get the shed finished, as outside they still have access to mess with the bike.
Cheeky ****** stood on the bike to disable the PIR for the floodlight thats above the bike, dirty great muddy footprints on the seat.
Made off with the bike cover, so I will have to chain the new one to the bike from now one.
I think I need to reconsider the security features I was going to build into the shed.

Bike Safe is being ordered tomorrow.
They make me so mad man!!!
WHY! do we all live in this society of uncertainty and worry about if it's gonna be there when we get out of work - or get up in the morning.
Fu**in scum! aaaaaggghhhh :x
And now you've gotta lash out more money to stop the theivin ****s.
If it come with logos on the outside that gives a clue to its contents. EG "Bike Garage" then remove them. That way the scum may only think its the garden furniture in there.

Cheers lads,
Didn't think of that
My heart goes out to guys/gals in the UK. I would say that 80% of the bikes here have no security to speak of. In fact, alot of people here leave their keys in the ignition while parked. I once was adjusting the lights on my bike, and got a phone call. I went in to answer the phone and forgot I was working on the bike. I left the ignition on all night, and the bike was still there in the morning  Gave the battery a charge and it was good to go. Anyway, that bike safe looks like a cool idea, expecially for storage. Best of luck with your shed, and post some pics when you get it together and sorted.

Best not show Mrs Mass that comment, she won't be very welcoming next time you come
Anyway, just to let you all know. Had a phone call from Bike Safe not 10 mins ago. They are delivering it tomorrow.
The quickest turn around ever for one - so they tell me.
Apparently the bloke who originally ordered one from them, phoned the council in Cardiff to see if he needed planning permission.
WHAT A :toss: So of course the council have said YEP!
So they can't deliver it to him. So Mr Mass gets one a bit early
nice one!
Nagai, do ye fancy coming down to give me a hand puttin it together?

They do look good... my mate has one in Swansea.. damned thing gets HOT in the summer though!!! and when the sun shines on it.. it blinds EVERYTHING.. so people keep away from it.. as they get blinded!
Had the pleasure of trying to put my bike in it the other weekend.. god damned thing!! the ceilings about 6ft tall...... Im 6 foot 2 inches!! squished head!!! there is a fine art to getting it in the tin shed though.. I just wheeled it back and fore on the spot until it didnt touch any of the sides when on the stand!! and it takes a gentle touch on the clutch getting it over the bump.. one wrong move.. and you'll have a new door the other side! ;) that wont close so easily!

I'm thinking something on the lines of the "Secure-a-bike" Wheel in n out.

The Bike Safe (Tin shed) arrived today.
It's bloody huge!
I have to put it on a level concrete ground - I'm buggered if I can find one in our garden
I'll have to make one then
Looks the bollox though, and the padlocks are awesome!
And the delivery bloke said to me that they have made several chnages to the design, thickened the metal in some places, and other bits as well.
Their gaurantee is that in the 5 years or so, there has only 1 bike been nicked from inside one of their sheds - pretty impressive.
They managed to cut through the shed with bolt cutters, and when they finally insepcted the shed, they concluded that the theives must have been hammering away at the shed for over 2 hours  as they made a mess trying to get in.
They have now strengthened that bit of the shed
But apart from that, it looks the part!
It's a bit bigger than what I expected I must admit :?
Pics on the way - when I manage to get the time to do it.
