I had my tires changed two weeks ago and then gave my bike it's first bath. While riding I opened up my legs a bit to let some air in and I heard a metal, chainy kind of sound. I closed my legs and the sound was muffled. I went and bought chain lub to see if the chain needed it. I kind of helped but the noise is back. If I am doing 50 mph and roll off the throttle the noice stops. If I rev the engine with clutch activated, no noise. I only get noise if I roll on the throttle. My concern is maybe the chain is loose.

How much play in the chain should you have on top and bottom? The bottom seems loose but I did not check it before the tire change so I have nothing to compare to.

Any help is appreciated.

Chain should have approx 20 - 30mm movement according to the manual. I find that the upper end of this tolerance works best for me.

If you get the back end up on a stand and then run it in first gear on idle. If you here a clunk sound every rotation of the chain, you may have a kink in the chain. You can't usually see these, but this will mean that it will need a new chain. Usually caused by a chain that is tooo tight.
