I guess this time tho we need to remember to pick up the booze and food before the shop shuts

Good point. I think we'll all be a bit better prepared this time though.

Hopefully theres a dodgy pub close by that we can pay a visit.

Ok, am I right in thinking the rideout is on the sunday but some people are arriving on the saturday?
Is anybody planning on being there the friday? I prefer not to ride when I'm hungover, I don't know anybody else.

Sure thing. I'll probably come up the A303 to meet you. Then up the A37 to Bristol to get Dr Rich and Monkey, if they are coming. If Clunk and Allie are coming as well, I guess they can meet me in Exeter.

Dont mind where we start/stop/break.

I put down the Stroud as the start point just to catalyse some comment and feedback. Again...I don't know the area, so I need some local knowledge to help iron out the creases in this grand plan.

V. interesting (good, but requires some discipline in terms of going slow) roads between cirencester and stroud...

Stroud sounds a flippin' brilliant start point - although I live in hearts I spent the first 26 mispent years of my life there and still have a bed there! (Assuming my parents haven't got a lodger)

This place looks alright...

http://www.mayfieldpark.co.uk/

But maybe somewhere closer to Stroud would be better.

Wildbill,
Been past this one and "gently sloping park" it ain't! Oh, and it's right by an elevated section of (A419) dual carriageway.

If anyone needs company doing a route recce or checking out B+B or campsites, then give me a shout.........damn  that will mean I'll have to be out and about on me bike more :)

I've just got this email

hi-ive been watching the rideout thing closely as im local!!to my suprise-youve
chosen stroud!!!-???of all the great places in the cots-stroud?not the best-i
can assure you.the mayfield park campsite is good, also good ones i put on
forum-i personaly would give the centre of stroud a miss.
please contact me if you want any info etc,
cheers,keep up the great work,
stowboy

This is my problem. I don't know Stroud from Timbuktoo, but decisions have to be made. So I've taken off Stroud as the start point.

I'm open to suggestions!!!

That's YOU dropped in it Steve.

Yep Stowboy is right, I too am from the Cotswolds, Cheltenham known as the heart of the Cotswolds. I was also suprised when you mentioned the pub in Stroud... I know that pub (The Fleece) theres not much parking and It's very small and to be honest the kind of place the music stops when you walk in.... I agree it's not a good starting point neither is Stroud.

If you are talking Cotswolds then you should be thinking in the direction of Bourton-on-the-Water. Have a look at this campsite
www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=2739

Or there's a great pub in Withington called the Mill Inn and a friend of mine went to a bike meet last year at a pub in Chedworth he says it was a great place, he is finding out the name of it for me. Even Cheltenham is a good starting point, there are a few camp sites here.

After 25 in teh Stroud valleys I have being scratching my head for a base - hard one that - though the roads are fantastic!

The road from Box to Nailsworth (known as the Ladder is a challenge to anyone - especially the other way round - up hill hairpins!)

The road from Cirencester to Burford is good for a quick blip (about 20 miles through Bibury(stop and look at the fish!) - B4425 I think) Follow that with the A424 for scenery to Stow in the Wold

The road Tetbury to Malmebury B4014 is good and flowing

im also involved with another bike club-cannot say which!! but they use leedons park campsite in broadway,as a base for runs/publunches etc,
big site, all the stuff needed, broadway is pretty well as nice as gets round ere.also the awesome fish hill
or folly farm campsite at bourton on the water,as andy lewis said :)
need somthing booked asap to start planning for this thumping event :D
