Thats quite a long time, I suppose as long as we can come up with a date, that seems most pressing for some people.
2 weeks is a fair time to get everyones opinion, not every logs on every day.
Only trying to be fair to everyone.... date I think will be whatever is leading the poll after the same two weeks...
Valentines day is decision day.... :D
And I bet you're going to come on your spangly new GS12 just to wind me up aren't you!
.
Voted Cotswalds, but any of them would be a good rideout I think.
Cotswolds for me :D
Ian, can you lock the date one on the same date. Whatever is decided then is th cookie.

I'm curious, whereabouts in the Cotswolds?
While I'm on the subject, whats the info about the whole thing? Is it camping or hotelling, how is it organised? Are the riders split into groups etc?
We need to get when and where sorted first then we'll sort out all the other details Kate
okie dokie, I just figured as I'm a total newbie it was something already known by most. The only meets I'm familiar with concern 4 wheels not 2 :?

Cotswolds would be good for me, I have a friend who has an hotel in Northleach.
I like the Cotswolds. No problem there.
So if the Cotswolds wins, who's going to organise.....
1) where we meet up.
2) the rideout route.
3) publish the info on a special page on the main site.
I guess I'll be doing number 3. so that just leaves 1 and 2 to be sorted.
John

Do they want some business? Looks like it may be the weekend of the 3/4/5 june :)
John, looks like jelster is going to have a look at the route, i dont mind doing the stuff etc.
I voted south wales, but I'm OK with Cotswallops...
ermmmmmmmmmm to sound thick were the hell is cotswold?? or whatever its called?
Looking like the Cotswolds so far. I have done a little research and according to a route planner the Cotswolds is about 450 miles from me :( and the journey will take over 20 hours
Hopefully it'll be faster on the bike  Just getting there, will be a rideout for me 8) Might need a few days of work, and make it a long weekend.

Good man.
The Cotswolds is in Gloucestershire, west and up a bit of London and nearish Wales if I remember correctly.
I learnt to drive in the Cotswolds, there are some lovely bits of road, my favourite being the A419 between Stroud and Cirencester. Unfortunately its a main road but its wide, twisty, hilly with straight bits too.

The hardcore tourist Costswolds are really centred around Burford, Stow, Bourton etc but the whole of the Oxford, Stratford, Bath triangle is similar scenery and all within easy riding distance. Or diamond if you think of Cheltenham.
About 120 - 200 miles from Plymouth, depending on the meeting point, so might be able to come along 8)
I votes South Wales, but am happy with the Cotswolds too. Much less of a journey for the Scot's contingent.

There is as well. He ain't lying!
Steve Jelley has offered to recky a rideout route. This is very kind of Steve but the problem is that he isn't local and this usually works best with a local man/woman at the helm. I could nip into Scotland and find a reasonable ride, but a local will always show you a brilliant one.
So hands up. Who lives in or around the Cotswolds area and want's to show us some great roads and tell us where the bikers haunts are?

Hi,
This is my first time on this forum, I just noticed that you were looking in to a rid out in the Cotswolds. I'm from cheltenham and often take my bike out through the Cotswolds.
There are some good routes and places to stop at along the old road (Roman - not too many corners) whatch out for the pheasents and tractors and you cant go wrong.
Cirencester, Borton on the water, Stow on the wold most of these towns and villages are all linked with pretty good country roads...soon as there is a dry day I will be on them

Andy and Stowboy, you guys sound very useful. I indeed think we will require a campsite in that area. Would Burford area be ok for those coming down from the north? I think its near the M40-ish isnt it?
I think by the end of this week there will be a final decision on Cotswolds, by the looks :D
I would be very happy (and Im sure someone else will come along from Bristol/Wales) to recce and routes and campsites with Steve and the local chaps as I know the area fairly well too.

For those of you that have not attended the "Annual Rideout", it's quite a spectacle. The route is of course very important, but the start, lunch and end points need specific planning.
Start point: A place where you can gather around 40 bikes on a Sunday morning, preferably with refreshment and toilet facilities as some will be waiting around for up to an hour.
Lunch: Somewhere that will cater for all of us, bearing in mind that some bikes will have pillions, and others may join at this point too. The Red Lion in Avebury is an excellent example, large car park, decent food, biker friendly and the village has character.
End point: There may well be in excess of 50 bikes by this time, and we'll need a suitable car park. Again some facilities would be very useful.
The route should be interesting with as little dual carriageway as possible, keeping away from larger towns and include decent features such sweeping bends and an undulating landscape. The Cotwolds has all of this by abundance, the “police” presence is generally quite low, and it’s easy to keep away from major towns.
Somewhere like the Little Chef at Buckland (A420) offers a good start/finish point as it has a large car park with a service station. If a local could provide some suggestions of suitable start, mid, and end points, I’d be more than happy to spend a weekend (or two) riding the area and put a decent ride together, but John is right, there is no substitute for local knowledge.
.
So far 83 people have voted, so it will be interesting to see just how many bikes turn up. Can you imagine 80 odd bikes thundering along one after the other? YEEEEEEHAH!

Might need a biker friendly pub with a garage then me thinks....do do the camping lark...
The pub in Stoud is called The Golden Fleece in Nelson Street - ill get directions and find out more when we set a date etc..
Is anyone up for some cricket when we get there ????
if its a 2 day event - we could stay in the area, and play some cricket with them - them vs SV.org  on Sunday..they usually have a rideout to the pitch ...others can carry on and meet later... 8)
just a plan :)

Thanks PeteM. Ignore my email to you. The date is now set for the 5th June
It could be a 2 day event for some, but the main rideout will be on the Sunday. It worked like this last year, some people met up on the Saturday, mainly the people that had furthest to travel.

Psst....shouldnt this be in rideouts/meets or in its own section like last year!
Well Cotwolds wins by a Country Mile with nearly half the vote...... :D

The main SV650.org site has the start point as:
GOLDEN FLEECE
Nelson Street,
GL5 2HN
Looking at multimap, it looks like it's in the middle of town. Can anyone veryfy that this place:
a) Has the capacity to hold 30 - 40 bike
b) Is a suitable startpoint for 10:30 on a Sunday morning.
Any insight would be appreciated.

I was thinking of heading down there on the Saturday and riding back on the Monday. Does anyone know any decent low cost hotels in that area. I have done a few searches but with the exception of the travel lodge at Stonehouse (7 miles away from Stroud) there doesn't seem to be anything for reasonable money.
To old for this camping lark. Like a proper pit and facilities.

Is it really a good idea starting from Stroud as its right over one side. I thought Burford way might be better. But its no odds to me, just thinking of the others. Guess its near M5 I suppose. Also Stroud is a bit of a dump and not especially real Cotswolds IMO.
