Well, finally got to buy my Scorpion stainless steel race can with removable baffle at the Ally Pally Show on Sunday. Yesterday got to fit it!
Unfortunately I am crap at DIY and it took me far longer than anticipated but for normal people it would probably only take half hour to hour I would imagine!

Here is the Numpty's step by step guide!

1. Attempt to cut existing pipe 45mm from weld using a junior "value" hacksaw- hacksaw promptly becomes blunt after 5 seconds after barely scratching the outer surface.

2. Instead of going to buy a larger decent hacksaw to tackle this problem with ease- go out and buy an angle grinder with metal cutting disc (bare in mind my missus won't even let me use her hammer drill!)

3. Crap myself for 30 minutes while I attempt to cut pipe in correct place without trying to give my SV a single-sided swingarm!!! 30 minutes of brown trouser inducing anxiety!!! 8-[

4. Then the fun bit! Scorpion can fits absolutely perfect!!! :D Took around half hour for me to fit it whilst slicing my thumb on the hangers sharp edges whilst putting the rubber shroud on! Tightened all the bolts and washed the blood off from can and fittings (Seriously!!!)

5. Start bike up!!! Oh my god! What a sound! Absolutely huge grin inducing sound at tickover!!! Runs fine! No problems with fuel mapping!!! :D :D :D

6. Get kit on and go for 30 mile run (Thank God it was dry day!!!) Fantastic!!! Amazing noise and the bike was faster!!! It has turned it into a mental machine!!! I assume this was due to being lighter plus it releases a few horses! Note: This was all with baffle removed! :D :D :D
Also noticed that it was doing less revs at 90 mph than usual though must have a proper look on a run out! :D :D

All in all I am the happiest man in Kettering!!! £169 very well spent and also I can now compete with missus's Thundercat and her Scorpion Race Can!!! Unfortunately don't think I can compete with noise of her Nikons on her RD350LC -they were measured at a Track Day at 124 decibels!!!

I would thoroughly recommend the Scorpion Race Can!!! :D :D :D

I've just ordered one, hopefully it should be in the shop by saturday and i can't wait to fit it. I haven't got an angle grinder so it looks like a long drawn out affair with the hacksaw is in store for me #-o

Yeah, blades meant for wood will do that
Glad you got it sorted in the end, I'm still trying to find the money to get the can on mine replaced.

Steve

I can lend you an angle grinder - I go through Clapham twice a day on the way to/from work - or can hand it over at Neros on Friday night if you're going :?:

A blade meant for metal should go through it quite nicely.

Thanks for the offer and I may well take you up on that although the prospect of accidentally cutting through the swing arm concerns me a little  If i have a decent hacksaw i may just go with that.

*goes to look at bike*

Hmmm, not looking as easy as i thought, the logistics of getting a hacksaw in 45mm from the weld don't appear easy. Is it not just easier to take the whole exhaust off the bike and then cut it?

Angle grinder is the way to go :D
You can always slice through a bit further from the weld, and then tidy it up

Cheers for the offer Toady but it turns out one of my mates has one so i'll use his. Single sided swing arm here i come :D

The thing to remember is to hold very tight to the grinder! I had never used one before and when I put the metal cutter in whilst in the kitchen, I then switched it on to try it and dropped the grinder as it jumped in my hand, almost cutting into the worksurface!!! Happened to mention this in passing to Missus later that evening who promptly called me a "****" asking me why had I been so stupid as to try it in the kitchen??? Apparently power tools may only be used in the Garage in my house!

If you have a good grip on it :!: , it should not be a problem and just take your time!!!

See Polarbear's above fitting guide for one reason as to why I never want to slice and dice Black's exhaust!

I have more scars on my hands and arms from scalpel cuts when prop/model carving than I can count... and my steel toe capped boots have the scars from the last time I used an angle grinder in the back of the 4x4!

They have been placed on the list of 'Bad Things'.

Apparently I grin far too much when let loose with power tools anyway and it worries the other half!

Kettering eh... I've finally found someone who's in the same county as me! :P

The Polarbear

Was your Scorpion fitted to a K3 or a K4?

Have a look at my thread re CCC.

Hi keithd, can you let me know how you get on with the Blue Flame please - I am thinking of getting one for my K4-Naked. (Blue, natch!)
