View Full Version : 33Bhp SV650s K5
Can anyone tell me, how affected a SV650s is with a 33Bhp restrictor kit fitted?
I was sold it has the same acceleration as an unrestricted one and that only the top speed was affected?
Cheers

Not true. At 6-7000rpm or so is where the SV hits the power band and takes off. When restricted that doesnt happen, there is a big flat spot instead. Still good fun though :)
Top speed - restricted it'll still do over 100mph.
ah well, I guess it'll still be a step up from my CBR125R with all of it's 12bhp !!!
:-)
3 weeks left till delivery....
At first clance I read this thread as 338 hp. Which seemed quite alot to get out of the trusty 650 unit.
O.K. 33 bhp, now I get it.
Sorry can't help with the query but find it useful as my bike will be 33 bhp when I get it.
mine is a restricted K2
On the motorway the top i got it to (with strong winds) was 100-110.
All the power disapears at 7-8k. Still fast enough in town.

You guys getting factory restricted bikes or full power ones and then restricted locally?
And does anyone know if the aftermarket restriction on the k4/k5 involves an injection chip change or just the ole washers in the exhaust job?

I think the fuel injected bikes need an engine management system change to restrict or de-restrict
Yep, I believe they just change the CDI box.
Ah well I can live with it for another 12 months...i hope!

Yep, this is all it is - a little black box that is switched out for a restricted one. Really easy to change.

I had 33hp kit on my K3. To be honest it really didn't make much of difference going to work and back but on the straights the flat spot got on my nerves but trust me when the time comes to change to full power you will be smileing from ear to ear its the bigggest mod power wise you can on an SV. Top tip Sort the the suspension out front and rear the difference in unbeliveable and cheap.

Having just gone from 33 to 71bhp, i cvan confirm that there doesnt feel like a big difference untill bout 6k rpm, then it screams off into the distance!
WWith the injection bikes its the ECU swop over! however, make sure the biike shop give u the origonal one back!! otherwise theyll try and get another 100 squids out of you to de restrict it!!
Hope that helps
Alex
Is it easy to reattach the CDI box then?
They we're trying to charge me £165 to have it restricted which I thought was a bit steep, for a small black box :-) !!
I was told suzuki give them the 33bhp kits for free.
If it quite normal for me to ask for the old CDI box, or would they prefer to keep it? I take it, if I've bought the bike then im entitled to it right?
oops one more thing!
Is it still fast enough overtaking once restricted?, I was pillion on my mates GSXR750 yesterday and I've never felt anything quite so fast !!
I don't want to know that it'll still be powerful enought to get me out of any situation.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

Its easy to put the CDI back in just take the seat off, unplug the restricted CDI and plug in the new one, when I brought mine they gave both units for free and just asked me not to plug in the full power one (you won't be insured).
The bike will have enough power to over take, get you out of trouble and get you in to trouble happy ridding. [/quote]

i had a restrited liscense and only ever had a bike restricted to get the paperwork. as soon as i got home it was take the thing of time. you can live with the restricter on there but the bike doesnt like it to much. mine used to vibtate a bit and get a bit jumpy. at the end of the day the bike is 71bhp. if it was made to be 33bhp they would have done it in the factory. hope this helps. jamie

Yeah, great advice. Riding illegally without appropriate licence or insurance. Well done. Not.
aye, I don't think I'll be doing that one !

Doesn't it have a time-limit on them now... i.e. you have to send it off in so many months otherwise it becomes invalid :?: :-k

Fair enough, but you're riding without a license, and that'll have massive impacts on you should you ever crash...
You're more likely to be found at fault and less likely to recieve an insurance payment. If you're fully comp, you've wasted a lot of money as the insurance company will almost certainly investigate your bike after a crash, and won't pay out anything other than 3rd person obligations (which do stay in force)
However, they'll try and recover that from you through legal action as well, most likely, as you've falsely declared information when appying for the policy and that's fraud. They're oobliged to pay out to third persons regardless but chances are you'll be found liable for those costs, and insurance companies have lots of lawyers.
You're also more likely to get sent to prison, as you're riding without a license and commiting insurance fraud.
But feel free, if you think it's worth it...
On the subject of restricted bikes, Daz was fairly rapid on his when he came over :) I think a lot of riders on slower bikes learn to conserve their speed and corner better than people on powerful machines.
