I ride a US model '01 SV650S in the states. I'm pretty sure it's the same as the UK models. My gripe is this - getting full throttle requires a big twist of the wrist! Does anyone know of a supplier of quick turn throttle tubes for this bike? Thanks.

PM ronlarimer.

He has done a writeup for changing to the R6 throttle tube. Straight swap for a 99 - 02. Minor mod for 03+.

I fitted an R1 throttle tube to my K4. It didn't require modification.

03/04 R6 is what you want for a carbed bike BTW. Not done it, yet.

Does this make the bike a bit jerky in town. I can be a bit club handed

First gear at low revs becomes ever so slighty (more) twitchy, but you get used to it. It's a good mod.

Did you buy the throttle tube new or from a breaker?

Blimey, and I thought the SV had a quick-action throttle to begin with. I have an old British bike as well, with an Amal carb. Now that most definitely needs you to grab another handfull!

No, but its really easy, you'll manage - all the throttle slider is is a cylinder with the throttle cable wraped round it.

Take the bar end off. At the other end of the grip is where the throttle cable wraps round the slider - it's covered by an aluminium case in two parts, held together by two screws. Undo them, take the case off and unwrap the cables. The slider will now slide off the bar, replace with the new one.

chazzyb - how quick is a quick action throttle? As I understand it the SV comes with a 1/4 turn slider... replacing with the larger diameter R1 slider makes it 1/5 turn.

Cheers Mate,
I'll give a Yami dealer a call tomorrow and see if I can get a price. The 1/5 can insert is about £25- so if it's cheaper......

It's probably a lot less aggressive, but the 1/5 QT on the speed triple is a real animal, it seriously bites :!:

Cheers Mark.

i can understand wanting to change the standard throttle for something quicker but be warned peeps something too quick can b a major problem

mine is set up for 1/4 mile action. so as quick as it can b. and for some strange reason my bike is solid as. doesnt wheelie and trust me i have tryed.

Well, I'm gobsmacked - the AJS with its Amal carb and twistgrip turns out to be only 1/4 turn of the throttle, but the SV is slightly less still. On the other hand, the SV goes somewhat better for any given throttle input...

Hmmmm,
I am seriously considering this mod, now my commute involves some motorway miles I have become conscious of my 'scooter boy' style arm flaying when I need to give it a handfull. :?

I've ordered mine, at that price it can't be bad.
Maybe fit it this weekend.

I should finally get around to it as well I suppose :) Would be easy if there was a Yam dealer I'd use near me. Anyone recommend a mail-orderer?

Its pretty cool seeing my site get referenced from across the pond. I am currently redeveloping the site (hence the "new" folder) but I think it is coming along nicely.

This might be a better link to poke around. http://www.ronlarimer.com/new/sv650/
