View Full Version : Fitting Official Hugger?

I've just bought an official hugger and I notice there is some sticky foam to help mount it and they recommend using loctite on the nuts. Won't this make it a pain to remove the hugger?

Now, my chain "maintenance" is only really cleaning with WD40, then lubing with castrol chainwax (I'll get a scottoiler soon, honest!). So, I'm not one of these people who has the back wheel off ever other day. However, am I right in thinking the hugger would need to be removed for tyre changes, services, chain/sprocket replacement, etc? Obviously, I'm a bit worried about making it "permanent" if it needs to come off every 6 months.

I don't know about removing it for tyre changes, though I doubt it, but loctite isn't nearly as permanent as you might think.

It's locktite 222 it wants (the weakest one I believe?) My main concern was the sticky foam that comes with it. I reckon one "removal" and it'll be wrecked?

Ah, that's reasuring! Any idea re: chain/sprocket changes?

Fitted now, v. close fit, but looks super. I'll go for a quick ride to check it's not rubbing against the wheel, then loctite the bolts it in place. I still can't see where the foam strip is meant to go (unless you're meant to cut it up) though.

the official one is supposed to be a pretty close fit, I think.
Probably the foam bits are to stop it rubbing on the swingarm.

The instructions that come with the hugger are quite clear on what to do with the foam strip. It is cut into lengths and stuck on the underside of the hugger to stop the hugger coming into contact with the top of the swinging arm. :roll:

I did consider that, but it looks rather optimistic in how you can bend it round corners :? (namely the middle "longest" section) of foam. Also, how sticky is it (it took ages to line the hole nearest the front of the bike up- I don't want it to stick in the wrong place). Cheers.
