Im getting the machine ready for spring. Few new bits including a new coat of paint. However, the forks are need some TLC...they look pitted and scuffed. I'd like to powder coat them for a tough long lasting finish. Anybody gone through the same process and how did u stabilize yer bike with the forks removed? Any help much appreciated.

To lift the bike to take the forks off I use a car jack and a block of wood to spread the load. Worked fine for me changing my springs

Paint 'em. Black hamerite spray. You need Zinc primer for the aluminium. I've done to mine and its much quicker and very good finish. Also stands up to all the road ****. Used 4 coats.

Used an ABBA stand and a £2.99 bottle jack, very safe and solid. You could do it with a swingarm stand, but it'll be less solid, you might want to look at other supports if you do it that way (or sling a couple of sandbags onto the rear end or something)

And change your springs while you're at it :)

Just behind the oil filter, bottom of the engine...

Got a pic Andrew?

I told lyn to do the same to her CBargh cos it'll settle well and give a good protective finish too.

I'd be interested to see how it looks on your forks tho.

I sold my digi cam and am waiting for the CLR photo's to be developed, on which I'll scan and post.

Looks great. I wish I'd got the calipers powercoated like chewys but that's something for the future.

looks fine on a black bike but mines yellow (fastest one)

my forks look terrible, what really is the easiest, cheapest way to make 'em gleam?

Black looks good if you've got a black engine, gives a good continuous black block. Not sure what I'd do for a yellow. Yellow, maybe? :) Or just silver like stock I suppose. Actually, bronze?
