Right, chaps and chapettes,

What are the thoughts about the rideout?

Do we want to go and "have it large" the night before and stay over (camping or B&B), or so we want to head out of here early on the day of the rideout?

Maybe some with want to do one and some will want to do the other.

What say you? :?:

I dunno about camping- I don't really fancy carrying tent/sleeping bag etc. on the bike during the rideout. I'm always a bit paranoid with any more luggage than a tank bag on the bike.

I'd be up for BBQ though. Or, if we camped in South Wales, I could nip home, drop off my tent, etc. the morning after, then come back for the rideout.

We could combine the two. As unenvironmentally friendly as they are, the disposable BBQs work a treat. You can fit 2/3 in a largish tankbag, too :D

Ceri, we would ride up. Camp and ditch the gear, do riding related activities, then collect the gear.

Although its near home for me I still think it would be fun to camp for a night or so and have a good drinky! :D Whatever i shall probably hook up with you chaps.

I’m not into camping, so not keen on staying over.

I’m in for the early rise, spend the day and finish with the BBQ.

Make it 3 - if there's a B&B involved then Mrs J will want to come too :D

Me either, that's why I've asked if people want to go up on the Friday and have a few drinkies, then the saturday have a general social thing.

Hi all,

I think this is going to come around sooner than you think. So what's the plan?
As yesterday was truly awesome!

I think this is going to come around sooner than you think. So what's the plan?

Looking at the map, and having ridden over that way last week, we can easily make Burford in an hour and a half of calm riding.

How about a number of meeting points (like Saturday), say J32 of M4 three hours before the start of the rideout, Bassaleg HS 20 mins after that and Aust another 20mins later?

This way we'll have time to regroup and collect those who get lost, time for a Little Chef Breakfast and time to fuel up all in a relatively easy and unpressured way. We'll also have time to "press the flesh" and put names to faces/avatars before the rideout kicks off

OK, it might mean a 7:00am start from Cardiff........... :(

What says everyone?

Jabba, I ran the route we discussed through Autoroute.

This is it. (http://www.cardiff.gov.uk/government/images/test_2_klm.pdf)

Allowing for arriving at the ride out-start early and for your now traditional burger at Aust, (the Little Chef in Burfoot will be packed), it looks like an earlier start than first thought.

I'm okay with this, but what about yourself and others?

I may come with you guys from Aust. Why not the B4425 Cirencester to Burford tho?

Why not the B4425 Cirencester to Burford tho?

No reason why not, other than most of the S.Wales lads may not know the way, so its easier to stick to the better signposted routes. If you're familiar with it, we can all follow.

How early ?? hehehe.. I shall need about an hour from here... I might be tempted to cut through Ystrad Mynach and go down to the M4 that way.. but I will get lost VERY easy that way! So I may stick with old faithfull down the A470 etc...

better get my next service in before then! lol!

I think the timings are very pessimistic indeed

I did Cardiff to Rowstock, which is past Farringdon and Wantage, on the A417 in 2hrs 10 mins on a Thursday morning.... left Cardiff at 7:30am and had the bike parked 107 miles later by 9:40am. true, I went on the second Severn Crossing rather than the old bridge, but even so......

Can't see this route taking any longer than that, although a stop at Aust would obviously add a bit.

Cheeky git :D At least you concede that I only ate one of them

I'd prefer to leave early with the promise of an Olympic Breakfast at Burford

I admit you only ate one, but I could tell you wanted both :) .

I've amended the route as Rich suggested and altered the timings at bit, dropping the long stop at Aust in favour of an earlier finish at Burfoot.

Valleyboy if you want to go via Ystrad Mynach, then you will be travelling right past me. How about This (http://www.cardiff.gov.uk/government/images/test_1_klm.pdf) as a possible route.

Ill come with you chaps and I know that route. Im not sure its very exciting but its more scenic and not an A road. I'm not camping now. Meet you at Aust or M4 J19 to suit you. I can wait on the slip ramp for you to pass if you dont want to stop at Aust.

Looks fine to me mogs :)

Gotta get my bike serviced before then anyway! lol! not a huge thing.. as if worst happens, I'll do it myself :)

Hi all, i was wondering if i would be welcome to come on the rideout with you lot?

My sv is my first bike and ive only been riding for 6 weeks but i think im a ok rider and can keep up!

Ive only ever riden on my own :( as none of my mates are bikers and I dont really know what go's on at rideout.

Daniel, 25yo, newport swales, a bit shy at first  Ride a black curvy svs.

Of course

I suggest that you look at Mogs' latest plan and meet at Bassaleg HS, near to the Tredegar Arms, at the appointed hour. I think that Mogs and a few others will be there. I will be with the contigent that leaves from Asda Coryton at M4 J32. We'll be rendezvousing (is that a word :? ) at Bassaleg before going on to Aust, sorry - Severn View, Services on the M48.

My sv is my first bike and ive only been riding for 6 weeks but i think im a ok rider and can keep up!

At the time we're leaving, i.e. Stupid O'Clock am, I don't think that any of us will be tanking it too much. Go at your own pace, don't push it if you don't want to - as a relative newbie, I doubt that you'll be asked to be last rider in the péloton as the last person often has to go fastest of all at certain points to avoid being dropped.

Ive only ever riden on my own :( as none of my mates are bikers and I dont really know what go's on at rideout.

Neither do most of us

It will be a new experience for us. However, of those that I have met from the S & W Surfers section, all seem to be thoroughly decent peeps and safe riders.

Seriously, we specialise in new riders here its fair to say.....as most of us are pretty new :D

No what you mean about no riding mates. Most of mine don't ride either. We will probably be running around S Wlaes a bit so keep checking in this section for other rides

Dan, do come along and join us on the annual. It’s a first for many of us, but I’m sure it will be a great day. Jabba is already on the case to ensure good weather, he failed miserably on the ride out on the 23rd April, but he paid the price  .

We’ve got ideas for other rides, Valleyboy is planning a short evening one (Western Black Mountains I think), and I’ve got hopes for a meet to circumnavigate parts of north Devon and Somerset, both will be after the annual.

Keep an eye on the South West Surfers board; local rides will be posted there.

Hello All.

Lads,

You'll have to excuse me for being totally dull on this one.
But, are we meeting on Saturday or Sunday morning at Bassaleg?

I can see the times and so on, but no day? or a I just too tired and missed it in the thread somewhere?

Anyway, count me in, and can confirm Nagai's attendance as well.

See ye soon lads, and keep it sunny side up, only another week to go.

Oh yeah, and I've now got 5.5k miles on the Blue Cow already

She's Mingin' at the mo

She was lovely and clean when I started the week, but the last 2 or so days have just sh!tted her up in a big way.

I just can't beleive the weather, whilst typing this I looked out of the window, it was raining, I looked back 2 seconds later - it stopped :?

WTF is going on with the weather????? :?:

Anyway, don't care, it can pi$$ down all it likes - I'm still going
