It's Mab's birthday Friday (for those of you who don't know, Mab arranged the very first SV meet in Soho, at the Nelly Dean). So no doubt a few of us, rather the worse for wear, may cross your path at some point.... On foot rather than on bike of course...

let us know if youre coming cos the one ways can be hard to navigate....

Im sure if you ask someone will guide you in... Mr Toad is a good guide in/out of soho... someone will pm you their mobile or make arrangements if necessary...

took me over an hour to find the place on my own the first time... (I have a very male like tendancy to refuse to ask for directions for some reason    )

whats worse was I was one street over at one point  then ended up back in Euston before ignoring the street signs and going down oxford street which is apparently ok after 7in order to finally get there...

Well, on Monday I thought to myself that I would not be participating in the social gathering that usually occurs every Friday night outside said Café. I actually went to bed thinking this.

Well I woke on the Tuesday morning and thought to myself, maybe I will after all make the effort to get there after work on the Friday. Well by the time I had got up had my shower and got booted and suited, I was again thinking about this subject and had second thoughts, after all I'm sure that Mrs Ape would indeed be pleased if for once I was home on a Friday night. So that was it, I had made up my mind. No I wouldn't be going to Soho on Friday.

With this firmly set in my mind I started my journey to work. Now Monday started a bit nippish, and by the time I had got to work I was decidedly cold. Whilst sitting at my desk hugging my coffee and trying to drain all the warmth through the cup and into my hands, it was then that I remembered that IF I did go to Soho on Friday then after all the jovialities I would still be faced with the ride home again.

Now if I lived where I used to then I would probably not even have given a second thought, but now that I have moved all the way to Newbury, it puts a different perspective on things. If it was to be raining as it was when I left Soho last week, well the journey wasn't all that much fun. The bike got covered in crap again. Which meant that I had to spend extra time on the Saturday cleaning all the crap of it again. This would result in me spending a large portion of the day out side cleaning the bike, Mrs Ape would get annoyed at me again and tell me that I am neglecting her and the children for the sake of some stupid bike that she thinks I should have never put back on the road. So that was it, I had decided that I would not be going to Soho on Friday night.

Anyhow, come lunch time I decided I would nip down to the local shop. Well I got my jacket and walked out side, well, the weather was lovely. Hardly any wind, the roads were dry and the sun was shining. I started to feel good again and looked forward to the ride home. By the time I got to the shop I really was in a good mood. I then got to thinking that it really isn't such a chore of a ride home from Soho even if it IS raining. I have great fun there, I get to spend some quality time away from the family and have good conversations with some of my good friends.

Well seeing as I hadn't already told Mrs Ape that I wasn't going to go to Soho on Friday, she would be EXPECTING me to go there straight after work as I usually do, so I just wouldn't tell her that I was thinking of staying at home and go anyway. Great sorted then. I walked the rest of the way back to work with a spring in my step and good thoughts for Friday. The rest of the day started to get quite stressful and along with stress comes tiredness. By the end of the day I couldn't wait for it to be time to go home. Exhausted I decided on the spot that if I felt the way I do now, god knows what state I'll be in by Friday. There is no way I am going. So with a gloomy face I got my gear together, packed up my stuff, grabbed my keys and headed for the bike. Wearily I mounted the bike and set off on my way. I probably got no more than a couple of miles down the road and started to feel good again. The weather was still nice, the roads were bone dry and the traffic seemed quite light for the time of day.

By the time I had got home, I had a really good ride home with not one scare (some good things come from moving out of the city). I was feeling good again. I got in and my tea was already on the table. Brilliant. I ate my tea, Mrs Ape took the kids for a bath and I sat on the sofa and watched Men and Motors with my coffee. Superb. Friday. Bring it on. After the kids had finished having a bath they came down and we had fun for an hour or two and then they were off to bed. Got on the computer and surfed this site for a couple of hours or more, I got to thinking, how could I have ever thought of not going to Soho on Friday?. Well that was it all sorted. Went to bed and got up the following morning, looked outside and the weather was coldish, but no where near as cold as it has been and most importantly it was still dry. GREAT. Had a great ride in, and when I got into work I had that grin that only a good bike ride can produce. Rock and Roll for Friday and Soho. The morning went without a hitch and every thing was hunky dory. Then I made a phone call to confirm that money that was owing to me was actually on its way into my bank account. NOT good news, the money had not been payed. Damn. So now, even though I knew that I wanted to go to Soho, it looked I wouldn't be able to, just because some low life that owes me money, and has done since last year, STILL hasn't coughed up the readies. I'm skint and can't afford the petrol money to go all the way to Soho on Friday.

I am now in a bad mood for the rest of the day. Half four seems to take forever to arrive, but eventually it does. Get on the bike and ride home. My bad mood rapidly dissipates as I start to enjoy the ride home. By the time I get home all bad thoughts have gone and I am feeling good again. Let's get it on for Friday, I'm sure I can find the money from somewhere. I get the kids in the bath and have really good fun. Mrs Ape has cooked me my favourite dinner and all is well. Especially because its Tuesday and Tuesday in the Ape household means an early night

So that brings us to this morning. Look outside when I get up and its starting to look a bit overcast, hmmmmmm don't tell me its gonna be a crappy day today. Check the weather forecast and it says dry for the day, rain during the night and then dry again for the morning. Fair enough, I can handle that. Set off on the bike and all is well until I turn off the motorway and a Volvo driver decides he likes my part of the road more than he likes his bit. Now don't worry no accident occurred, but only due to my reactions. I swerve right out the way and the wheels are scraping the curb. I managed to keep the bike the right way up and in front of knob chops Volvo driver. I then proceed down the road doing 15 miles an hour, the Volvo inches away from my rear wheel. He then see's a break in the on coming traffic and tries to overtake. REALLY. I accelerate and then slow down again. He's right back up my rear end again. Unfortunately I have to turn off or I could have kept it up further and made him late for work. So I get to work and again I am in a bad mood. Stupid ****.

Maybe this was a warning, maybe I should leave the bike alone for a while. OK, now decided, not going to Soho on Friday. Spend the rest of the day in a mood. Home time and the rain that is supposed to be coming over night has already arrived. Bugger and damn those weather forecasters. I left my waterproof suit at home and the bike is going to get covered in crap again. Ride home in the wet and would you believe it, as I turned into the drive it stops raining. Mrs Ape is in a mood and the kids are crying. Happy days.

Oh and I voted yes by the way

Okay, Mr Ape. Two things:

One, I assure you that a particular structure of English grammar would be most helpful in allowing peeps to read your excellent post without going boss-eyed and bringing on a headache - it's a called a paragraph.

Two, it was not by any stretch of the imagination short and sweet. But then you knew that. I have to say that the degree of insurrection on this forum lately is becoming utterly intolerable.

Lyn,

dare I say that any reply to Jordan would have contradicted your claim to sweetness?

Just a thought ;)

My point was, that after such a presumptuous remark about your blood-sugar from the Squirrel of Fire, you may have found it necessary to reply with some equally derisory remark - this, it is safe to say, would not have been sweet, but in fact, a sour remark in defense of your glucose levels.

As it turned out, you continued to be sweet by not retorting to Jordan's remark, and continued to be short in your one line response. I on the other hand, have now had to explain myself in a lengthy post - I expect I'll get excommunicated now. Thanks!

I took the bike to work today for the first time at my new job. I'm very pleased!

However, this means that I'll probably be an early arrival for Soho... just after 6pm, will I be alone?

Well..that was silly. Direction sence of a muppet kicked in, and i got lost, well not lost i knew where i was, just not where i was in relation to the bridge.

So i gave up and went home. Which is a shame, as I was having so much fun stalking Lyn.

SidSquid - not avoiding you.....i'll pm my number or i'll see you wednesday.

Well, I'm shattered.
I even went back to Frith for an hour after we left the bridge.
