My 4 1/2 year baby goes for it's 15,000 mile service today. Apart from feeling lighter in the wallet department, Do you think i will notice any difference?
It has been parked up for 6 months while I had a company car and soon will be doing at least 50 miles a day commute (maybe 70). The idle adjust cable needs replacing and I think the thottle cable is in need of a good lube.
I'll let you all know tomorrow!
I always notice the difference after I service and balance the carbs.
Yeah my bike always feels better after a service, but i'm sure some of that is psychological
Only once did i ever feel a difference after a service and that if i remember was the 8000.

I normally notice a difference, especially after higher mileage services. Occasionally, it's not good, like last time when they didn't tighten the bolt that holds the tank on!

I always notice a difference after a service, but I do often ask them to tweak one or two bits in the process anyway. Mine gets a big service tomorrow, so I'll let you know.

I think you will, don't they adjust/re-shim valves on the 15K?
I always notice my brakes being sharper

Maybe I wont be able to tell you.
They are keeping it in for observation. Something about getting the wrong starter cable into stock (despite the fact that I said 3 times that it was the Idle Adjuster Cable that was needed!)

Check valve clearances, don't necessarily adjust.
3500 mi oil service ---- I only notice differnce in shifting and controls
7500 carb sync /clean air filter/plugs ---I notice substantial difference in performance, starting and even milage
15000 mile valve clearance + 7500 service-- I notice about same difference at 7500 mile service

Yes I did, very much so in fact. Looking forward to taking the bike out tomorrow, and that's a fact.

Certainly noticed a difference, as the mechanic said, "You'll notice the difference in the brakes!" Sure did!
Picked the bike up yesterday and popped the nephew on the back. Smoother changes and smoother power delivery throughout. I had asked for the Idle Adjust cable to be replaced, which they said didn't need it. Odd that, it still doesn't work. FOUR times I asked for it to be done and every time they "corrected" me by calling it the starter cable. (Now call me a dimwit but isn't that something completely different on the Y model???)
Went to the Silver Ball with the guys this morning. Great ride, great brekkie too. Heading back home though and a bit of a clunk in Hitchin, then ooops no breaking as I go into a roundabout. "****" thinks I. Look down, "Oh, that'll be my caliper bashing against my fairing and fork." "Oh, ****"
Thanks for the bungee guys (forgotten who's it is in all the swearing going on in my mind, but I'll get it back to you!) Thanks for the offers of escorting me to Colin Collins to make sure I get there in one piece to lynch the mechanics.
I turn round and ride slowly the 5 miles to the workshop, stoppping to pick up a caliper bolt on the way. Got pulled by a helpful Plod who wanted to escort me back. Dropped the bike off with me explaining my more than slight disappointment with the standard of work carried out over the past 2 days. (How do they clock up 6 hours labour when they only undo bolts, but never tighten them up?) The workshop will now have to sort out the brakes, the bashed fairing, the stratched fork, the battered front disc and calliper. Then explain why I need to be offered a Police escort for my own safety following a very expensive service and how my wife was nearly my widow.
Oh, nearly forgot, they almost couldn't find a courtesy bike, though I think my face might have been the catalyst in finding a K4 for me.
I'm intrigued what peace offerings they can come up with now!
i feel bad now , i should have gone back with you so i could give'em a bollocking as well as you.still it's good to know your o.k and plod helped you out.by the way the bungee £5 a day rent  .

Don't feel bad - if I don't get my way I'll send my wife round there!

Ouch. That's nasty. I did warn you that sometimes bikes come back from servicing with bolts undone. I didn't imagine that it would be the front brakes though. I'm glad that you didnt' have an accident. Which branch of Colin Collins was it? I've had some negative experiences with them too in the past.

I think the manufacturers should be aware of these cowboy outfits. It happens in the car trade, bike trade and even trucks.
My SV had to have an engine rebuild after its 600 mile service because they left the filler cap loose
Riding off without brakes sounds a tad more serious :(
i should say,you don't take anyones life lightly.there no reason for a caliper falling off other than shear idiots on the spanners :x

Closer inspection (not in the middle of a roundabout) suggested that they just didn't tighten the bolts. No threads were stripped.
Love to see their torque spanner!

glad you had a good day as such tho was thinking maybe a peace offering maybe a can and double bubble screen might do the trick
oh dont forget that you cant replace the one disk replace both at the same time otherwise youll get uneven bracking and the bike may pull to one side glad to hear the police are dooing somink usefull today then  and glad every one is ok was a good ride today maybe do it again without the mechanical dropppings

Indeed and a roundabout is not an ideal time to find out that your brakes don't work, either.

thing is about 10 minutes before that we were dooin (or at leas i was) dooin a little over the ton thru the lanes being follwed by red ones and spud scary little while befor and a right hand bend (plenty of those lovely corners about) and the caliper would hae had him off

I hate to slag off a dealer but I have never heard anything good about Colin Collins... I know you only tend to hear the bad stuff, but we also talk about some great customer experiences on here too, but I can't remember that particular dealer being any of them.
Nick had problems with his GSXR when he traded in his SV and ended up having to speak to Suzuki before he got anything done.
That's what you should be doing, telling Suzuki UK about the high cost low quality service that any dealer gives you...

Got it back this morning.
I guess they have now checked the bolts.
See you all again soon (at least you'll hear me coming next time - that's if the shine of the forks doesn't blind you!)
did they sort your fairing ?????. did they try to butter you up.

To be honest I chose for them not to touch the fairing. Once they had popped it back in place there were 2 small chips. Knowing that there are 3 or more shades of red used on the SV I thought I would stand a beter chance of matching colours than they do. I opted instead for a fork polish and Micron
o yer.........a micron a :) .you little tinker.

p.s didnt have to send the wife down there then  :?:
My bikes done 16K now and not had the 15K service, I'm doing the work myself as I have just got the bike and am not paying £300 that I was quoted for someone to do my oil, air filter, plugs etc.
My pads need doing as well so I am replacing all of them with EBC HH pads, putting in a new air and oil filter, changing the oil and new plugs - this is costing just over £100, considering the £300 service didn't include the £56 worth of pads its saving me a fortune.
I will either do the valve clearances myself or put the bike in to have them done separately.
I wonder how much of that £300 is actually parts - and how much is expensive hourly rates on labor.

Mine was £100 for parts, the rest was labour - most of which is for the valve clearance check. That's what it really went in for as I have always previously done servicing myself.
