Anyone recommend somewhere around the Essex / Herts area for a good, quiet helmet at about £100.

If you find any let me know and at that price I'll buy the lot....
Good + quiet does not = £100 Sory, but it's true.

Yeh - thought I was pushing my luck - saw something reasonable at the local BMW dealer today but was bit rich at £180.
Have seen some pretty cheap stuff but mostly crap
It depends, i dont know where you would get one, unless you knew your size/which makes fit you.
I picked up my Shoei XR-800 (Discontinued) at the Ally Pally Show for 90quid. So bargins are arround.
Dan
you can get some decent ones for that price, but they'll never compare to some of the pricier helmets...
You can get a caberg brutus for under £100... Had one until I crashed, loved it, was fairly quiet etc, basically a cheaper version of the Roof Boxer...
Try Busters, there selling off X-Lite 901's for £75, I've just ordered 1. My mate has one of these and says it's the quietest helmet he's had.

i bought a AGV Hot Rod for the g/f today from Hein Gericke. if there one near you try them as they are all ablout to get their '05 stock in and need to make room for it.
There are some dirt cheap 'last ones' but you gotta have a very big or very small head for em
The AGV Hot Rod is very comfy but also noisey. More noisy than my SpiderMan one which suprised me cos it felt better made.
They even have a couple of Rossi Reps for about a ton so well worth a look.
Just dont waste your time on thier website cos they still have a big frontpage ad for A*s 2002/3 kit!

I know it is not to near to you but J&S in GREENWICH sell hundreds of bike helmets at good and cheap prices.
Especially end of line equipment
Picked up a SHOEI reduced from £280 to £150. There is a hugh range there.

Mail order sounds good but my head is between sizes, so helmets could be going back and forth for weeks :D :D :D

Motrax. Here  http://www.motrax.co.uk/Index_pages/clothing/cabergv2.htm. Go to the home page of this site and it gives you a list of dealers. I have also ordered the mirrored internal flip down visor to replace the standard smoked one that comes as standard with the helmet. 8)

What about ear plugs? I always use them on longer journeys and they improve things no end, whether it's in the Arai, Shark or the Takachi. Not so great for commuting though - need your wits about you! Don't Roof make one that's super quiet... sure I read something about it in this month's 'ride' mag?
Anyone else here tried Takachi? I got a free one (I assume the bottom of range £75-ish one) with a hire bike after I got knocked off and they let me keep it... maybe slightly more noisy than the Arai (a Quantum F costing about 4 times the price of the Takachi) but more comfy and easier to use.
I suspect the Takachi won't last as long, and the paint on the exterior chips if you look at it, but I'd rather have one of those every year or two than buy an Arai and try and get 10 years out of it to make it pay for itself...

I picked up an Arai "SV" last weekend. Basic but comfortable and of course I can interchange visors etc. £200 from HG.
I looked at other makes but Arai is the only make that fits and feels comfortable on my bonce.... The "cheaper" ones felt awful, and the HJK has a seem running through it. I'm far happier investing more money in a lid that I am confident will not only protect me but will has a longer shelf life. (The cheaper ones generally have a 2 year life span, better ones about 5 years).

saw something reasonable at the local BMW dealer today but was bit rich at £180.
That would be the Sportintegrale; one of the quietest lids on the market and is great value considering the quality.
Top of my shopping list this summer

Hey Jabba...make sure you try the full carbon sports lid.... just for the experience.
I tried it at the Ally Pally show and i want one sooooooooooo bad it hurts.
Its £800 odd tho
Just for interest has that Caberg V2, got a kitemark or is it Euro approved?
And if it has a kite mark is it ACU gold?

Got it! - the helmet was a Roof 010 Diversion. Closer to £200 but according to Ride "We've been very impressed by Roof's 010 Diversion which even claims to create a noise-killing vacuum near your ears" - however, that's the only place I've seen or heard of the Roof having such properties - can anyone else verify that bit of info?
Ride readers also rated Schuberth S1 (£350) and BMW Sport Integral (£185 but down to £150 at http://cannon-bmw.co.uk/cannon/htm/bmw_clothing.htm) as being quiet lids.

Yes, euro approved.
I believe it does have the ACU mark, though that really doesn't mean alot.
The ACU have a checklist of features, it's got nothing to do with the actual safety of the helmet. No extra testing is done.

Chris, You mentioned BMW and I know they are a bit pricey but go in and ask about the 4EVO which has now been superceded by the 5EVO
I picked my 4 up at B/stortford for £140 best lid I've ever had
