My race bike has always felt a little 'woolly' at the top end but still made good power and was still quite fast.
We decided to check the fuelling on the dyno ande noticed that it was very lean at the top end, in fact it was so lean that it went of the scale on the dyno we were using.
The bizarre thing was that at around 8500/9000 revs the air/fuel ratio that had been perfect until that point suddenly shot straight up. No delays, degradation or anything else.
After lots of mucking around and attempts to cure the problem with a Yoshi box we decided to swap air boxes as we felt one of the sensors must have been bad. not sure which sensor had been causing the problems but we immediately got perfect fuelling all the way up the scale and gained another 1.5 hp from 8500 to the red line.
It seems bizarre but, perhaps more worrying, I really don't see how you can know you have a problem with regular checks ona decent dyno.
