I spend a fair amount of time in controlled areas stunting with a few others. The SV is great for wheeling with stock gearing. I am running -1 +2 on a SK1 which is 14/46. This makes a significant difference and while it is not needed I prefer it.
The only problem that I have had in the past year and a half is I just had a fork seal go out from one too many hard letdowns. It has held up great otherwise.
As to the revs, I never really look at the tach when clutching them up so I dont know what I use but I try to keep the revs when in a wheelie below 8k to be easy on the motor. SV's will blow the motor if you run a wheelie too long so give it rests between longer high wheelies.
I wheelie the SV in both 1st and 2nd with just clutch. I have not practiced it but others have gotten it up in 3 and 4 by clutching, bouncing, and giving the bars a tug.
Good luck and cover your rear brake!! :D
I like to keep 2 wheels on the ground, with the stock 15/45 (nekid model) the front wheel had too much helium
I went to 16/46 sprockets + 112 link (longer effective swingarm) chain , that let some of the helium out, but I still get roll on wheelies in 1st 2nd, and in colder temps 3rd, with the clutch, it will come up in any gear, I don't know why one would have to tug on the bars

front wheel came off the ground over a hump back bridge on my 33bhp SV on sunday, felt good for about a second, then when the wheel hit the deck with a 'clunk' and my manhood hit the tank i had a tear in my eye!!!
But it still felt good on one wheel :D

i've done a couple off the power in first, but what ever you do, don't shut the throttle off straight away cause you'll end up with a new voice.
I think I'm going to stick with stock gearing for a bit, I am starting to get the wheel up fine on stock gearing (actually not sure if it's stock... got a 45 rear but apparantly the S should be 44.. I dunno) but think I'll leave the gearing till I get a bit better.
Mine doesn't want to power up (well, it might do it, I've never tried, I HATE power wheelies unless on supermoto with lots of power) I clutch in 1st from about 20mph (sometimes less) at about 5k revs.. doesn't really need a great deal either, just a smooth and quick dip of clutch brings it up fine.. I just need to learn to get it up higher and keep it up, I'm still learning with sport bike wheelies as they are well different to the KTM
To be honest, other than riding it to work, all I ever do is go to a safe(ish) industrial estate to do wheelies  I went to ind. estate before work, at lunch time, and after work today
Kern, do you have any pics of you stunting the SV mate?

i learnt my lesson,i always look around even when i open her up. i got fined £30 for a wheelie on my klx 250 and that was lucky cause the copper said he could of given me 6 points.

My 01 SV wheelies great. I got it last year and was doing mile long stand ups in second. With the stock gearing you have to work a little to get it up in second (Depending on how much you weigh) Im onle a buck sixty. I would suggest getting comfortable with the first gear wheelies first. I went up a few more teeth in the back and now Im doing them in third. With the stock sprockets I had to beat on it a little, I brought the revs damn near up to redline and dumped the clutch, shifting your weight back as far as you can helps alot as well. Takes a little less work to get it up that way. After getting a jet kit, filter and exhaust it powers up a lot nicer.
I find it helps to be low on fuel and let your butt touch the pass. seat. I can do 1st gear power wheelies (rev to about 4000 or so, release for a second and crank on it.) and 2nd gear clutch ones (though those are more like an extended bunny hop.) Mine has stock gearing.
Yes I do wheelies. Both on standard gearing and now with one tooth up at the rear. Rev's depends on which gear I am going up in. In first, pratically from stand still and off the clutch so about 3000. In second about 3500 and also off the clutch.
Power wheelies I just change into 2nd really early and whack the throttle open all the way and as the speed increases the front sort of starts to float. A bit like an aircraft taking off.
Have I broke it, hell yes. As I posted on here not long ago. Was doing a power wheelie, I got to about 30mph and the front was rising nicely. The front wheel was probably 2 feet off the ground and the rear wheel span out. Cold tyres and cold road.  Bike went one way I went the other.
Ah well, you live and learn.

i took my sisters boyfriend for a spin on the back today. It was the first time i took anyone on the back of the SV. When i changed into second and cracked the throttle open, the front wheel came up about 2foot. I saw the pillions feet at either side of my head. he nearly fell off. I jammed on the rear brake and he was thrown back onto the bike. phew!
And all that from a 33BHP SVS. It was a good feeling though, reminded me of my little wheelies on the TTR250 :D

I gotta buy new chain and sprockets, my chain is way way stretched :? what sort of gearing should I go for??
Was thinking 1 down on front and 2 up on rear, not sure if that's a bit excessive or not though?! maybe 1 down 1up.. ?!

If this helps at all I went up wither four or five teeth in the back I cant remember which and down one in the front and lost twenty five miles an hour. So I guess thats the only thing that you have to figure out is how fast you want your bike to go.
I've never tried too hard to get my front tyre up, but, on occasion if I run it fast through the gears, it will start to float.
I was thinking about gearing mine faster. Should I even bother with the front sprocket?

I did it only once by mistake at traffic lights
First i was scared as ****, cagers pressed theit horns so it felt good
I'm too scared though i might drop it so... not for me :?
A few weeks after I boight mine, I was leaving school and a bus stopped in front of me. When I took off, I killed the motor (my first bike) and I was embarassed, so when I got it running, I wound it up to 7,000 and dropped the clutch in... it scared the **** out of me, and everyone was staring.
I gotta buy new chain and sprockets, my chain is way way stretched :? what sort of gearing should I go for??

If your going to be wheeling all the time then expect your sprocket and chain to wear a lot quicker than normal, if you go down on the front sprocket, expect even more wear again. Oh and don't forget the clutch wear as well. Personally I wouldn't go down on the front sprocket, just go up on the rear by a couple maybe. Although I'm sure there will be some on this site that will beg to differ with my opinion.

Sometimes but never on purpose, every time I do I land the front wheel back down and manage to bang my "jacobs" on the fuel tank and it hurts so I try not to

DONT TRY WHEELIES unless your happy with the fact that you may drop it and are happy with destroying your chain and sprockets, always wear a back protector and lid, dont take silly risks in crowded areas. And above all... NEVER get caught
Agreed, if you want to get good at stunting you'll never do it if you're worried about dropping your bike... The exact reason why I'm trying to get some cheap plastics, crash bungs and some leathers
Not the best stunt bike but I can't afford a CBR600F4i just yet ;) Maybe next year :D mmm racing 905 crash cage and 12 bar ;) damn Americans can always seem to afford these bikes and all the kit and have loads of places to ride without getting stuck in prison :x (I'm not jealous, me nooooooooo)
I like the comment from the guy that is watching the wheelie gone wrong.
He says "That was to high".
No sh*t sherlock.

SlightlyModdedSV- How many of these mile long wheelies have you done and how many motors have you gone through? Everyone that I know that keeps the front end up for a significant amount of time on a regular basis blows the motor. Do you have a secret solution to the oil starvation issues in the SV's?
Yer I'm on stuntlife, have been for a while, good forum and always good vids/pics being posted up.

If the engine was getting starved of oil wouldnt the oil light come on? Or is it getting just enough oil to keep the light off?

I am in the USA. anyone know about how much race cans cost? and if they do much, I have already ordered an exhaust and fuel injection module. I just got my 04 SV650S about a week ago, so I was just wondering, I can get it up in first with motor power only, and I weigh about 250 so the sv650s has the power that is for sure,I was just wondering what I could expect from a race can, and the possible price. Thank You.

There's a wheelie school about 5 miles from where I live, I might learn how to do it on one of their bikes, don't think I'd want to on mine. I have done a couple, unintentionally- accelerating away from lights a bit quick- but thankfully have kept the bars straight and wasn't that high up. I always cover the back brake under hard acceleration now :)

Sv's will eat their own crank if you wheelie to far. I've rebuilt a mates engine cos he was doing just that... 2 mile standups... great wheelies, you should see his old crank though.
The Sv's oil pickup is at the very bottom of the engine, located centrally. There are pics on sv1000.zyns.com in the 650 section. Basically, it'll be uncovered once you hit about 50 degrees, and then you don't have that long before there's no oil being circulated.... I'd estimate you're safe for 1/8 mile or so but anymore and you'll probably be doing damage...

The oil light wont come on untill you do long wheelies and even then sometimes not untill you 12. Mine has never come on, this is all second hand info. I also run 3/4 of a quart over.
Best time to practice is when you've barely got any fuel in... I clutched it up (like normal) yesterday going up my road then realised there was no fuel in the tank  so came up a bit higher than expected. SO much easier to get up with no fuel in.
I've decided with my gearing just to go 15/47 (im on 15/45 at the minute) I was going to try 14/47 but think that's a bit too drastic for now as it does wheely relatively fine at 15/45 - I've been reccomended to go 15/50 but maybe after I've tried the 47 for a bit!

Here's the sv's oil pickup for you... Notice it becomes uncovered at about 45-50 degrees...
