I am thinking of removing the bottom bung on my exhaust, is this legal? If it is illegal what will happen if i get caught?

Cheers

Hey,

My M4 is not legal in my province. After about being forwarded on five times with phone calls as no one knew my answer, someone responded! I wanted to know the dB limit in Saskatchewan. The officer said the limit is 84 dB on cars and 85 dB bikes, around there. A vaccuum is 90 dB... and an old ladies Saturn, is 83 dB... Most M4's are around 92 - 98 dB and can get up to 100 - 102 dB if your in high rpm. If I don't ride like an ass, they won't stop me and I should be fine. :)

It is a bung, not a baffle. The can is a blue flame evo. It has a twin out let, when it is legal it has the baffle in the top outlet and a bung in the bottom.
All i want to do is take the bottom bung out. Is this still illegal as i am not removing a baffle???

Race cans aren't always louder.

The Gaffa Ninja has a race Micron = deep rumblye sound but not really that loud. 8)

Black, my SV has a completely road legal GForce can = sounds like I've got a WWII Spitfire following me around!

The bung and the baffle make it pass noise regs, removing either or both will cause it to exceed them, therefore it wont be legal. If you get stopped the worst that will happen is a rectification order, simply refit the bung or baffle and get it tested and stamped. sorted.

thanks for that Muttley, a fine or rectification order is no problem, but points on my licence is a VERY BIG deal (can only get 6 in first 2 years)

So aslong as i can't get any points the bung will be staying out

Mine was "Not for road use" originally, but quiet enough to MOT under the new rules, despite having no packing in. But at the moment I'm shortening it and putting a wider inner pipe into it, so that may change :) I suspect I'll be in the market for a db killer soon...

In Ontario there is a loophole. THere is no set db limit for exhaust noise. A fellow rider got a ticket for "excessive noise" and it got thrown out because of that. Also, the police would have to conduct a noise test to make a charge stick, so they don't really bother people about it (unless you draw attention to yourself or course)

Yeah. If I don't ride like a moron, I should be fine. Keep the revs around cop shop, cop houses, and other known areas. Small town advantages! :D

The can I just bought is BS stamped but quite blatantly a race can.
Not heard it on, but will probably be a little noisy.

I have a Carbon Can End Can on mine and it is a vast improved sound than standard. A little diferent than most and certainly receives approving glances from the IL4 boys down here! Certainly not intrusive but definitely nice.
I was watching my Duke DVD on the 2003 Moto Gp season and on there they were saying that the Db level for that year was 130! Not sure if this has changed but gonna be listening to some ear candy on 10th of next month at Jerez!

I have a Scorpion Road Legal E4 marked S/S oval can with removable baffle. I usually have the baffle removed and it is loud!!! :-dd

Went out with mate on Tuesday evening this week from Kettering to Matlock. Despite it starting to rain just around Nottingham, we had a fantastic time!!! Went to stop off at the bike night at the Durham Ox in Langley Mills however it had closed for business 2 weeks ago and we ended up going across the road to Prince Charles Napier pub. They could not have been more welcoming. Really recommend them!!! :D

Anyway, came past my mates CBR600F as he was pootling along at around 105 mph and I went past at 120 mph (on the M1 airfield) and he said it was like thunder coming along. He was so peeed off that he reckons he might change his stock can. He said whatever speed and wherever we were (we stuck to exact speed limits on the A610 and A6) all he could hear was my can. Couldn't hear his own

i got the same one as u,

just remove the pair, it is still BS stamped and it doesnt say "for race use only"
to the chances of you getting caught are very slim indeed.
