went out with some mates today and found myself having to rev my sv to 9 and 10k just to try and keep up  ,im used to fours and have never had this prob.my engine has now got 1000 miles on(took 14 weeks to run in) but it seems to struggle between 3 and 7k,will an engine retard eliminator give me more power and evan out the revs? i am also fitting a scorp can next week, will this give a bit more useable power?
the other bikes im out with arnt really fast bikes (triumph thruxton 04 model) for example! but evan this bike on a slope was accelerating away from me! help

so would you say its ok to rev the sv to the rev line on regular occasions.

from my experience you should be able to keep up with most bikes like Lee said but Ii have notice that second or two later on the throttle with equally powered bikes will make them seem alot faster when its just thier already going 10mph faster by the time youve got on the gas

thanks for replys.
so could high revs all the time damage the 650 lump? my old kwak 600 was always aproaching the red line (14k) but it seemed to love it!

Lee's right, unless the bike's been modded- which I doubt it has- you're past the peak by 10000rpm. Mine isn't, but mine kicks ass :) But like everyone else has said, you shouldn't be being badly left behind until you're up into go-directly-to-jail speeds. The Thruxton's not as slow as you might think, but an SV ought to be faster.

Ahem. Anyway, TRE elimination won't do very much for your power at all, and only in 2nd and 3rd gear IIRC. End can might give you a little more power but not very much- bikes tend to be set up rich so the slight decrease in restriction may get you some benefit.

Time for some mods, get it breathing better and all will be improved.
Get it on a dyno and make sure it's running OK if in doubt. Dyno runs are good for a base mark and an experienced operator should be able to tell you where your improvements are needed.

Then again, tuning an SV for power is a fast road into madness :)

what do you weigh out of interest?, if your mates are riding 600's and they weigh 9 stone and your riding an sv and weigh 18 stone you will get left behind

i always keep the revs above 7k, all the guys i ride with are either on 600 race reps or big litre twins and i still keep up until the 100-110mph mark(private road of course  )

The only problem I find with the SV is the acceleration. My mates on their CBR 600's will easily out accelerate me, but my SV does catch up in the end. I've been on regular rideouts with friends on vastly overpowered bikes compared to the SV and had no problems keeping up... especially in the twisties ;). As mentioned before, get a dyno done if your really worried.

im a 11 stone rider ! not quite a fatty just yet.
i think im still riding like a in line four,im going to try being in 4th or 5th next time im out and just open the throttle hard 2 see if the torque pulls well from there(im used to revs in gears 1 and 2).
