Can any locals, or someone with time to check them out on the web this weekend, tell us which is big enough and has the best facilities?
Cheers.

There is a site directly behind the Chef/Travelodge, but I have a strange feeling it may be caravans only, as that's all I could see yesterday...

I will probably stay overnight near Banbury, then meet you at the little chef thing.
I will wait to see the route and timings before I decide
Looking forward to the A423 & fosseway :P

In that case, for those of us planning on camping it up, we should try and decide on an "official" site.
It'd be annoying if we decent to camp and have a few drinks but everybody else is 10 miles away.

Shall we go for the top one and create a "i'm booked" thread??

The top one looks OK, but it'll cost £18 per night.
On the up side they do have an off-licence :D , but it shuts at 6pm. :x
On the down side they charge £1 for visitors! :x
On the up side the closest put is 1 mile away, in Charlbury :D

I think Ive stayed there, it was nice. If its where Im thinking tho (and it may not be) tent areas are very well laid out in nice little hedged in bits which is lovely for lone camping with a friend but may be less good for grouping up the tents.
Some of these sites would probably be very happy with the odd bike turning up but may not be happy with a group. They can be quite caravan family oriented around there. I know we behave but we probably dont look like we behave

Rich is right, alot of campsites are biker adverse. Alot of places won't even allow single sex groups over 5 people.
We have an advantage, we're all booking separately and arriving in small groups, so they won't notice.
It doesn't actually matter if our tents are apart, though it would be preferable to try and aim to be near each other.
£1 visitors does suck a bit, but I don't think we're going to have that many visitors, that's kind've the point of camping together.
An I'm booked thread is a good idea, once we sort out a site.
Perhaps someone should enquire about the bikes and not all show up at once with our seperate bookings...They could just decide to chuck us out    in which case we'll all end up at BigApe's place!

I could do it, but I'm not camping. "The biker who used to be known as Dr Rich" is a decent well mannered bloke, if he's staying maybe he can enquire. And he's not really a biker anymore as he's got a BMW

I'm checking parts of the route tomorrow, so I'll visit the sites Steve has listed.
Apart from persuading them to accept society's forgotten hordes and checking how close pubs are :) and me not being a canvas person, any camping type questions I need to ask?

So long as there's room to pitch a tent, park a bike and sit around with beer, I'm pretty happy.

Went out for a buzz round today with Big Ape and some camp sites have closed, some do not exist, some have disconnected telephones!
From the ones we checked, two meet different requirements.
Bridge House Campsite
Bridge House
Lechlade
Gloucestershire
GL7 3AG
01367 252348
This is cheap, clean and cheerful, costs £4 per person per night and has showers. The owner is willing to cordon off an area for thirty odd to camp together and bikes can be parked next to the tents, the pubs, B+ Bs and town are only 5 mins walk. Lechlade is located on the Thames south of Burford on the fast A361, with the campsite 10 mins leisurely ride from the start point at Burford.
The second is the one Rich stayed at and is up market
Cotswold View Caravan & Camping Site,
near Charlbury.
01608 810314
www.cotswoldview.co.uk
It's located 10 mins North East of Burford on a superb back road, has all the 4 Star AA 4 Pennants bells and whistles facilities, but costs £18 a couple and is out in the sticks and space means they cannot cordon off an area for us. It also has B+B facilities and self catering cottages. Very popular and bookings will need to be made very soon.
Hope this helps

I think the Lechlade site will appeal to the majority.
If it is decided to make it the "official site, when people book, can they make it clear that they are part of this club? (no discounts I'm afraid, but the owner will know what size area to reserve.)

Great work Leigh (and Si). I reckon having an official preferred camp site is the way to go, I'll advise John.
.
first one sounds great, will wait for official confirmation before booking
I've actually camped on this site myself. I was living in Lincoln and working in Swindon so camped there during the week for about 8 weeks   As Leigh has said it's cheap and cheerful. About a 5 minute walk to the pub just the other side of the water, with a beer garden and plenty of space. (It's about a 10 minute stagger home again.
The showers as I recall are basic, but hot. I'm contemplating camping there Sat night myself

Definitely good work getting it narrowed down so nicely.
The first option does seem like a no-brainer to me.
I would like to be there friday, though not sure at this stage, since I don't know how many will be there.
