Left home this morning with mind full of picking up shiny new bike at 3pm.

Got to roundabout to get on M'Way - car in front goes - I go - car in front hasnt gone - he's stopped instead. I glance off the o/s rear of his car and crack my fairing.

Now my part ex bike doesn't look so part-exable. How can this happen? my only ever accident on the day i go to part ex my bike?

I honestly feel like blubbing like a small child.

Uplifting words of wisdom please.

gutting mate..... have you spoken to dealer to see if they'll just knock money off trade and still take it ?

the dealer will probably still take the bike off you mate - but of course they'll take into account the cost of repair. However, if they're eager to sell you the new bike (which they probably are) thn you should push for a good deal - ie the price should be cost of repair for them rather than what they'd charge you.

that is real bad luck, at least you're not injured.

Work for a good deal like the others say. They'll be more interested in a sale at the end of the day

Spoke to them and all they say is let the workshop have a look at it. WHich is fair enough.

I'm thinking £150 - 200 is fair for a cracked l/h fairing. it looks like it'll repair anyway and as mrbizzy says - they will only be paying 'internal' prices for parts and labour.

My other option is to say "b*llocks - i can't afford that" and lose my £100 deposit and walk away...

I'd feel a total ars*hole doing this though - especially as they've fitted a load of trick bits for me.

My best possible outcome is that they'll take a hundred and fifty quid off and i'll lose my no claims and have to pay a hefty excess...

I'm still absolutely gutted though and will let you know the outcome.

if they take 150 off the trade-in value, why would you lose your NCB and your excess go up? surely it would only do that if you claimed on your insurance, and in this case the insurance company won't be involved at all if i understood the situation correctly?

He did hit a car, after all.

Dante, I've done this before, too easily done if you don't pay close enough attention.

You shouldn't loose any deposit made mate..... i'm sure it is actually (although not well known) illegal to take a non-refundable deposit... (the only time they could do that is if you took it for a ride and damaged it) if they tell you that is the case then i would fight for your deposit and ask for it in writing that the refuse to give you the depoist back. Then gently inform them that you will be speaking to someone about the situation i.e trading standards (abit extreme) by when you drop them two words in it, they sh*t themselves...

It is only £100.... but it is the principle of the fact at the end of the day is it not??

By they way... bugger... how annoyed are you??? sorry to hear that mate...

Sorry to hear of your woes, I've done this only once (in a car) and never again - it's a hard but worthwhile lesson though, which once you've calmed down in a few days you're surely appreciate. Hope you get yourself sorted as financially painlessly as possible.

Real sorry to hear this, I know that when I drove the Evo into Norwich to deliver to the new owner I was bricking it and all the drivers around me seemed to either be getting in my way or trying to ram me!

Heres to a good outcome for you! :)

Went in to the dealer - they were pretty good about it - priced up a new part - £155 and took that off my part ex.

I rode away on my new K5 (you may have known this as the heavens opened at exactly the same moment as i drove out of the dealership - it's my day today).

Anyway - onward and upward - i'm happy that i have my new bike and shot of the old one - i'll get some pics up tomorrow!

The most frequent mishap on our roads today. Did exactly the same thing last year. ****** drivers who freeze at roundabouts. Usually drive Nissan Micras.

Sorry - i used the 'Free Hosting' thread in the Photos section as a bit of a guide - it just says to keep them under 500k - i didnt realise they would still be so big!

I had my 2 most miserable biking moments today - 1 being this mornings ****ting of my old curvy and 2 being the 'guiding' of my new 5k pride and joy down the greasy M3, ****-wet through with new tyres and new brakes in a thunderstorm.

Still - all's well that ends well and shes safely in the garage - chamoised off and will not see light of day until we are well in to 60 degree territory!

First impressions over the old bike - lighter, firmer, better sounding. I guess the wooden brakes will sort themselves out in time?

Thanks for your kind words of support!

Dan

P.S - anyone out for a ride in Basingstoke area this saturday who doesn't mind hanging on for a sub 6k rpm'er - drop me a line!

Jimmy did the exact same thing just after he got given a ridiculous trade-in offer for his bike... Seems to be bad luck, like having crash bungs but not fitting them... Sounds like you've got a good dealer there though!

Out of curiousity, if a deposit for a bike can't be non-refundable, what's the point from the dealer's point of view? They might as well not bother surely?

Hmm, what's your existing bike, if it's an old SV the fairing's too expensive!

Just a thought but whatever the bike is, is it worth taking the broken fairing and flogging on ebay as damaged repairable? Might get a few quid... :?:

It was a 2000 blue curvy - shes gone now. The fairing, bar end and labour to fix/fit was £155. That wasn't too bad i thought.

Still waiting for a nice day to start running the new 'un in!
