What is the fastest you have gone (top end) on the road?are you a copper?
my speedo read 240ks... took it to 235ks on the road....
before anyone jumps up and down on a barrage of stupid, dangerous riding etc etc comments I would like to make very clear the following:
1. I was in Australia on an empty road completely void of oncoming traffic, police speed traps, police in general, people in general come to think of it other than my mates I was with...
2. You dont do it for very long either.... after 180ks the wind just wants to push your helmet off so it gets very uncomfy with it pushed back in your face pushing your sunnies in your eyes... oh and fuel consumption becomes a major issue too given the distance between garages...
3. I was the slowest of that group... the others were on 'busas and blackbirds...

240Km/h = 150 mph
Is that possible? What have you done extra to the bike?
Even if you allow the full 10% over read on the speedo that is 135 mph (216 Km/h).

Yes it was on an SV... and it was the same as my current one, clock in Km/h rather than miles... my one outside has 240 km/hr on the clock max.... whats the max speed on a uk model out of interest?
so the indicated mileage 235 km/h, realistically what that is I dont know.
Indicated 163 mph, so that will be about 150 then. YZF 750. Did it for about 2 miles, never went there again
On the SV it was an indicated 140mph, but i was having to hibernate behind the screen to get there!

Indeed.
above 110 is just special occasions for me.
I would also suggest that if you did get caught, and they found that you are supposed to be a restricted rider, that the 140 mph might give the game away somewhat.

as long as i dont hurt anybody else in my stupidty i dont know what i would do if i was to hurt somebody else due to my error
to make all feel better tho i did get flashed by a camera on the a12 today 70 ina a 50 zone my own stupid fault so i cant moan really shouldnt have been speeding   3 points left then by by license and ikll be paying for a bike i cant ride
one reason I love the SV.... have loads of fun on it but at speeds under an instant ban whereas the CBR was a bike where it was a matter of time before I lost my licence.... the only fun is in the powerband and when youre there your at 110... :?
have to force myself to slow down on the CBR because its so easy to go fast and then even faster... and Im obviously not one of the rev head brigade where speed is everything... I actually had fun on the CBF today blatting down the A20.... corners nicely at 85 and much fun was had...
speed occasionally is good fun but dont have the need to blatt it everywhere now..... guess Ive hurt enough to not want to hurt anymore now.... and Ive also learnt one thing from BA and my accidents... it seems to hurt more the faster you were going at when you came off.... always at the back of my mind now.. :?

That's pretty much how I'm riding now.
I have promised myself that I won't make anymore stupid overtakes (you know the ones I mean) I've even taken that to the point where I wouldn't have made some moves that Scoobs did last week (and I consider Scoobs to be a pretty safe rider)
Done an indicated 142/3 mph on the sv a few times and chased an Audi down the m65 at 130 the other evening.
It's not big or clever and I don't do it anywhere near as often these days... the older I get the less bottle I have/more sensible I become(delete as applicable). I'm always on the look-out for plod, but at silly speeds by the time you see them, they've seen you
did a ton 10 past a police car on the patrol car mount on the M25...
the factor involved just coming out of the dartford tunnel and was in the middle lane overtaking and seemingly being overtook by something in the outside lane.
What happened is lorry from far left lane part of the tunnel needed to get into lane of car I was overtaking and in typical lorry fashion just indicated and started to go into lane. Car obviously started coming into my lane to avoid lorry. At the same time, car overtaking me had a beemer up his **** so decided to let him through so starts to pull into the gap where I was....
Me realising Ive got 2 cars effectively trying to be where I was and road ahead of me was clear.... I just gunned the throttle.... got up to ton 10 and outta there.... once clear... slowed back down to around 90... then saw the police car sitting there...
think I got away with it because they could see what was happening, why I gunned it and that I immediatly slowed down when clear... :D

Just got back from Lydden(you must go tomorrow its great)and found myself being tailgated by somene who was too impatient to wait 5 seconds for the car in front of me to complete overtaking the slower one in lane two.As soon as all was clear I erm pulled away from the tailgater. When I checked the speedo about half a mile down the road I think it might have said 150 but I can neither confirm or deny that any of the above ever happened. It is satisfying to do that to tailgaters though innit?

70mph, maybe 80mph once or twice.
You lot give bikers a bad name. All this bragging about i have been this fast etc. Also, our boys and girls in blue do watch these sites. When we all do rideouts, with highly planned routes etc, then they may if the need takes them, be hiding in the buses for us.
Speeding isnt big or clever, and can cost money.

For those of you who have never ridden this quick on the roads, it is quite scary. Stationary items on the side of the road go by at a tremdous pace, and the slightest movement makes your bike move a long way as everything happens over a greater distance.
When you think about it, 180MPH is 3 miles every minute.... That's the equivilent of traveling 30 miles in 10 minutes. Unless you are on something like an Autobhan with hardly any traffic you can't hold this speed for long and it's especially dangerous if there is a group of you...
I know many of us like the "speed" thrill (me for one) but I can't think of anyrhere on the UK roads where you could hold 120 plus for more than a few minutes because our roads are so busy and have crap surfaces. If you really want to experience fast road riding, look towards the open and empty roads in Europe
"Appropriate speed" is a bloody good phrase....

i did that 18months ago and have definatly learnt its not worth it. i have a kiddy now and do want to see her grow up. like my grandad always says, better to be ten minutes late in this world than 10 minutes early in the next. cheers all. jamie
Hey,
I've gone 226 kph (140 mph) down a hill, wind at my back, on my SV last summer. I have never rode that fast again. I do get it up to see 200 sometimes. I don't do it very often... Just enough to get a monthly fix... ;)

Kawasaki GPZ1000R first night of ownership with brother in law on back 160 mph (indicated) 8)
Had 185Km/hr indicated on Sv clock but not sure what that is in real money! :?
I have to agree with Jelster,(what again! ) top end blasts are just a great fix every now and again. Far better the torque that some bikes offer from way down low, for me those with grunt from say 3500 to 7000 and say 40 to 100mph,are the real deal as they are providing the power that can be used far more in the real world. However what the hell do I know?! :?
Had 185Km/hr indicated on Sv clock but not sure what that is in real money! :?
115mph - divide by 8 then multiply by 5 gives a reasonably accurate conversion.
I like working out distances as I ride along in France/Germany. I always like that kilometre distances go down so much quicker!

Divide by 1.6 to get MPH... In this case 147, and I don't believe a standard SV will do that, 130-135 tops...... My GSXR has read 167MPH, which I equate to about 155 (Digital speedo's being more accurate than analogue, so about 7-8% out),

I once hit 68.5mph on a bicycle!
Suzuki speedos are notorious for over reading.
GPS is the only way to have a spot on accurate reading. Not sure if it's really worthwhile on an SV but if you're a candidate for the 200MPH club then I'd say do it.
130 (indicated) on my SV and 45 on my marin (http://www.marin.co.uk/marin-2005/bikedetail.php?ModNo=2547)both on the A303. \:D/

thats scary basically 70 mph on a pushbike... and only a bit of lycra to save your ass if you came off!!!
145mph for me. that was about a week before my bike died! again on the notorius private test track! nicely mentioned lee.
214 kph and it took a while to get there from 210. I guess I could have held it up to 220 but, as it's been written before, it gets really uncomfortable past 180 kph (not to mention wobbly).
Hey,
Or just use Google (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=1+kph+to+mph&btnG=Google+Search&meta=) to calculate the conversion.

whatever it is its fast enough thank you very much.... bring on some german autobahns.... not something Id do on the crap uk roads with uk traffic... :D :D :D
I admit I speed everyday on the motorway to work. I do 90-95 but usually thats the average and Im in the middle lane with cars doing way way over a ton in the outside lane. And its one reason I love the SV over the CBR.... the SV is easy to keep under a ton... the CBR just wants to fly faster and faster and its hard sometimes to slow it down... :?
max 125 mph on a fully laden gpz on german roads.... heeheehee that was fun.... germans are far more aware of traffic coming up behind them and get out the way than traffic here even at 70 on the m/way....
anyone want to see anymore pics of that eurotrip that my avatar came from.... ? if so will post them up when I get them hosted...

Briefly touched 102mph on the SV a few weeks ago on the A2, following a 1200 Bandit and R1 doing stupid speeds, done about 115mph in the car briefly once too... top speed doesn't really do it for me - rather it's the acceleration and the getting up to speed. I prefer to slow down with the rest of the traffic, look for an opening and then rocket up to just over the limit on overtakes

I'm with Sveedy Gonzales on this one. I was smegging it down the East Lancs the other day (from the lights, to see off a Vauxhall Corsa with a loud exhaust) - when I looked down the speedo was indicating 97mph
Felt like I was doing about 50 - and that's on a Naked! It's really strange coming from an IL4 to a V-Twin - on an IL4 you know by the sound of the engine if you're going fast or not - but on a Twin - god help me!

Dude, was yours trying to overheat? I was running mine a few hundred RPM below the red line in top for 45 minutes at a time on the motorways [140mph give or take a few mph] there and only stopping for fuel, the f**king thing was trying to boil
Sounds about right!
Not sure, I mean it was hot, but it displayed no power loss or anything. I probably wasn't giving it enough attention!
Probably not good for it at all, well, obviously it's not. But you know, I had to keep up with the rest  And we're talking about the likes of Pete on his Busa, Taran on his Triple, TopCat on his Blade, and Jelster on his GSXR.
The only problems I had was the oh-so-well-known issue when riding in the rain  And damn, was it raining. 110mph+ when all you could see in front of you was the next bikes tail light.... just. Scary? Stupid? Yes.

Must have been about 10 or 11 years ago, I had a Cavalier SRI as a relief car while my usual one was being serviced. Just for the hell of it I put my foot down while on the A2 just past Canterbury in the direction of Dover and hit 120mph, cr@pped myself and eased back after a few seconds as the car felt like it was going to take off every time it hit a bump... Just goes to show that under all the trim, it's still just a Vauxhall Cavalier...
Did the ton (according to the speedo) on the SV shortly after I got it just so I could say that I had been there but not conciously been back since. That was on the A21 near Sevenoaks one Sunday evening.
128MPH on a deserted air strip not unlike the A3 past Longmoor in Hampshire. That was on my old carbed Y model.
The K5 has seen 83MPH (thats 6000RPM in 6th ;), and will see no more for another 450 miles.
Ahh, speeds great isn't it.
Bravo to monkey and leesimmons lol.
Best on the SV has been 137 (on the clock) so far (it was still acellerating just, but then I had to turn off), and thats my only way of getting about, and my fastest bike so far!
Have been 160 (clock) on the back of my dad's old GSX-R, and sat next to him in the car giggling like a small boy at 170.
Obviously all these measurements are in feet per hour......

Hmmm well, the SV's indicated some pretty fast speeds, but I'm sure that the reality of the situation was very different.
I've averaged 125mph over 4 hours trying to get to Calais through France. That includes petrol stops  I think I maxed my car at 136mph, which is the first time I've got a car to indicate it's manufacturer's claimed top speed.

Sorry fella. I think what it means is a bike with average drag weight etc requires 33bhp to push it along at 100mph.
