Clicking cam chain???

Hey folks... I am a new comer to this forum, and biking in general, and was hoping one of you kind souls could help me!

I had a recent slow spead spill... not really any damage, but i have noticed a "clicking" noise ever since... It does not seam to be there when the clutch is in... I have been told by a "friend of a friend" its most likely to be the cam chain... Anyone else encountered this, and what can i do to rectify it??

"They all do that, sir." There's an easy fix for the carbed bikes, don't know what the equivalent is for the the injected ones- you have a different tensioner.

I pop mine into 2nd (with the engine off) then pull the bike backward for a couple of inches. Seems to tighten it back up again.

Basically, take the top cap off the cam chain tensioner adjuster- it'll be the front one, it always is- and get in there with a teeny tiny L-shaped screwdriver (Maplin sell a tiny ratchet that works a treat). You'll find there's a screw head inside- turn it clockwise till it won't turn no more, then release it. Now the hard part : putting the top cap back on. This is an absolute **** of a job unless you have extra joints in your fingers. I just pull the carbs, I reckon it's easier than mucking about down the side and cutting your hands to shreds (when I did Jimmy's bike I wasn't so sure that the carbs would go on and off easily, since they'd never been touched in 4 years... It took us about 40 minutes to get the cap back on :oops: )

Do not, under any circumstances, move the engine (ie start it, move it in gear) while you have the adjustor retracted, that would be Bad. Also don't remove the allen headed bolt on the side of the adjustor.
