after a race meeting last week a couple of issues with my SV have surfaced. The first one is the seat feels about a foot thick --Very plush Im sure for road use but apsolutely no feel for the track.
also I have an aftermarket cdi unit with adjustable rev limits --Mine is set at 11500 Is that normal for a 2003 -Last of the carbed models?
It feels like its just starting to develop power at that RPM.

I think 10500 is the normal rev limit. btw, 2003 is the first of the FI models over here.
You should be getting peak power somewhere around 9k but peak torque is a bit lower at mid 7k.
Alot of people have cut away the seat and found that they prefer it. I personally need the height so my legs don't cramp up too easily.

I figure if you've got a reprogrammable CDI you've probably done some other stuff to the engine, so it could be it'll still pull past the stock redline... Even so, personally I'd not want to use power that high, I'd be starting to worry about my crank. Thought about fitting an SV400 CDI to mine to get the higher redline, but decided not to :)

thanks guys . I've ripped the padding clean off my seat and replaced it with 1/2 inch camping foam. 2 laps later and the bike feels transformed.
I can get my body weigth over the bars better and load up the back tyre when i need to.
peak is 9000 hu--oops So there is a real difference between the injected and non injected model then -eeeep

cheaper way to a higher rev limit is to fit an sv400 cdi unit, cant remember the rpm's the limit is set at but its higher than the 650

Not especially, the injected model peaks in the mid 9000s too, maybe 2-300rpm later, though it doesn't drop off as hard. The injected one does generally make about 4hp more though (you can get that, or close to it, just by swapping in K3/4/5 cams for £120- it's the cam profile not the injection that seems to make the difference)

Any tuned SV is going to keep on pulling to the limiter, but I'd really not want to raise the limit... The SV crank's absolutely fine for 70-odd horses at 10000 but if you significantly raise the ante you start to run the risk of breaking it, and raising the rev limit will put on some serious stress. It seems like a lot of the broken cranks I've read about happened when they've overridden the rev limiter (with engine braking or mods), also uyou're more likely to have valve problems.

Weegaz, apparently it puts the limit to 11500 with the 400 CDI.

I can think of little that would pish me off more than to see one of the con rods without having first stripped the engine down.I reckon 11000 revs+ would conjure up a rod in no time :!:
