View Full Version : how old is my bike
im thinking of selling my bike wich is a t reg but looking at the docs the previous owner was the first and it states he aquired it on the 14/7/2001 does that mean it was registered as a t then sat in a dealers shop for a couple of years or am i missing something

The SV doesn't exist as a T Registered bike, maybe it was a personal plate of some kind?
pm me your frame number i've got my manual in from of me and i might be able to give you a clue :D
the sv was intro'd in 1999 which was T reg territory. no idea why it was not registered by dvla until 2001, may be a call to DVLA would shed some light. they're very helpful these days!
i used to park up to a very battered black SVS which was on a T so it is possible although as Carl says, might be some kind of personal plate.
Seen a few T reg sv's so doubt its private plate, Could have been registered but never sold...
As will said, dvla probably your best bet

Could have been used in some where like Germany buy a squaddie and then brought back over here in 2001, I had some thing odd like that with a CBR i bought once. Can't remember the exact details of the registering loop hole tho.
Mine's a T reg. Not a private plate unless someone really wasn't choosy!
Edit: Actually if one symbol were 3 letters different it would [in 1337 speak] spell TITE ONE. :lol:

I think T ran to the old scheme: 1st Aug 1998 -> 31st July 1999

Hmm, that's odd. If it was pre-registered in a dealers, they would be the first owner so the previous guy would be the second.
Does it say 'acquired' on the V5, or something like 'first registered'.
It sounds to me like it was imported as a used bike from Europe and first registered over here in 2001. But because it's a 99 bike, it's on an age-related plate.

Further to what lairylarry said, I would look closely at your docs...
Last year I bought an 02 SV650 in my home town of Glasgow, but I brought it to the Isle of Man and registered it here... On my Manx Docs I am the first and only owner since 2004 when i registered it here. So it looks like it was unused from manufacture in 02 until i bought it here in 04! However, in the "Small Print" It states the bike was previosly registered in the uk (DVLA) You might be experiancing something like that from another country...
I dunno if any of that makes any sence!!!
I am sure there are many sensible explanations for it...[/quote]
