Hello although Im sure we have communicated before :D

We used to meet up a bit but less so of late, although you probably know about the ride this weekend, are you coming? Im sure this will spark off some more regular rideouts etc. Just needs someone to say when and where really.
Loads of scope around Bristol.

I would love to meet this weekend for the ride but have a small problem - i failed my test last thursday so have a bike but no licence DOH !

Booked the retest for early next month though

Silly U-Turns - shame i havn't got the 125 anymore to practice

Are there many from the bristol area then Rich that meet up ?

Well a few on and off, but as many just over the bridge as well who we sometimes used to meet up with. However there's more and more appearing. A few of us dont have SVs now.
Shame you cant make saturday, but Im sure it will spark off future events.
Personally I used to ride with Monkey and Term a bit after work up the wye valley and through the mendips etc in the evenings...very nice. Probably will start that off again as soon as the weather settles down. So there wil be things happenning. Bad luck with the test.

Bad luck on the test - You'll fly thru' next time, then you'll be ready for the annual ride out.

I'm already thinking about the next ride-out, perhaps somewhere in Somerset/Devon, so that we can meet up with the extreme southerners.

Yes please, down to Exmoor, Porlock Hill, Lynton Lynmouth, thorugh the moors, round vis Dunster maybe. Nice rooads although so many 40 limits Bridgewater to Minehead now :(

Did some nice roads down there running in the GS.

However cant beat the Welsh borders and Herefordshire. Far less limits there, lovely roads...

I think we should make Mogs S&WS 'Route-meister General' :D

SVs don't do greenlaning very well; trust me on this one.

Well Im not sure the one Ive got will greenlane too well either as its a little large but the thing is when I learned I always fancied something like an Africa Twin that would be a great distance bike and be good on those crappier roads etc. But when I was starting out I found them (and still do) a bit large and heavy (top heavy basically) so got a bit disheartened. I thought about an F650GS but wasnt keen on the idea of a single. Then I saw the great deals and great reviews of the SV and so got one of those. I really liked the SV and then I saw the V-strom 650 which I must have overlooked and that looked an ideal compromise and I nearly bought one.
BUT I had also seen a KTM 950 Adventure and I realised that if I had the Strom I'd always wish i had one of those...heart just wasnt with the Strom. And then of course a spotted the 1200GS and that did it for me. Absolutely ideal. Similar perfomance to the SV, will tour as well (better than the 950), may travel some distance on it I hope, should manage the crapper roads.
SO...kind of got what I was looking for in the first place, via the SV, which I maintain as do other who've gone the big traillie route is a cracking bike.
TBH I hadnt allowed myself to get into the SV enough and certainly didnt move on because I felt Id mastered it very wrong for anyone to think that as Im a newish rider still, it was more than enough bike for me and probably always would be but I just fancied somehting different.

Flippin ek...life story. But Im bored at the moment!

I'm in St Werburghs. There's a yellow original shape SV just off St Johns Street (coming from Fowlers, going under the bridge and passing Victoria Park) in Bedminster, is that close to you?

Unfortunately I'm out of action on the biking front: Bikes getting a spring clean before being sold very soon. Off travelling in September - but I'll be getting another one when I'm back 8)

I must be just around the corner from you Cos, I'm on the border between Southmead and Westbury. I have a Sk3 in silver with far too few miles on the clock (damn job!) I need to do a good few miles this summer or the misses will make me sell it for the Cooper S she wants!

Sounds to me like you have a prebuilt excuse to give the wife when she asks why you go out riding so much.

Enzo you are definately close by and you shouldn't let the Mrs make you sell the bike. Monkey where you live isn't far from the cente of town is it and is easy for me to get to just down gloucester road.

Correct. However I don't have an insured bike so I'm little use to you in the way of rideouts. Sorry :(

Here's another idea pinched from my Ninja mate at work. They organise a 2 day ride with an overnite stop in Watchet. About 180 miles on Sat and 300 on the Sunday i.e. door to door. Accomodation - 4 berth challet/caravan and meal in the pub = £28 per person. They organise a meeting prior to the event to sort out the route, groups (slow, medium & fast) and 'rules'. They operate a strict 'drop off' system where the leader and tail end charlie know the route, second person in the group marks the junction if its not staight ahead and then rejoins ahead of TEC. If you leave the group you tell TEC. This way your position alternates through the group and no one gets left behind or lost  .
Doesn't have to be Watchet, there must be loads of caravan parks that would welcome the custom in late spring / early summer.

Rich, you best leave your toys at home.
