Brake broblem

I've noticed that my discs have been looking a bit shabby alate and I reckon it's to do with all the salt and the current wet weather.

I gave them a good wash and then covered them in silicon grease to stop any more water/salt getting onto them but when I've just taken my bike for a spin they don't seem to be working as well as they did before :?

Do you reckon it's because I washed them using a solution containing wax?

Hmmm, OK I'll bite, it's not the 1st of April is it?!
Sorry but if this is genuine and you've smeared your discs with grease I wouldn't imagine that they'll we working at all before long.
A good going over with brake cleaner for the discs and a new set of pads in the calipers is the solution I reckon.
Take the bus to get them!

I've heard people mention before that it's ok to use copper grease on brakes. Isn't Silicon grease just a modern version?

No it's not.
When people talk of copper grease they mean for on the BACK of the pads to stop squeal. Also on the PINS to stop them seizing up.
NO OIL or GREASE, OF ANY KIND, should be used anywhere near the friction surfaces..

Copper Grease on the back of pads to stop squeal, by all means, but no grease should be allowed anywhere near the braking surfaces, they rely on friction to stop you so grease is a definite no-no!
Oh and silicone grease has other applications on the bike but it's not a new version of copper grease.
