This is a fun one, anyone ever had this.
Riding through town and I have problems with changing from 3 down through to 1st.
I can change up without a problem and I can go down from 6th to 5th to 4th. But when I change when braking or slowing down the selector just will not go down, it feels really spongey and it don't matter how much I stamp on the selector, it still won't go down. So I then stop and get ****ed off try it again and it does go down to 1st/neutral.
I have changed the oil in the bike for new 10/40 and I have replaced the clutch cable. I am now scrating my head, I am getting so fed up with it now I broke the selector this morning by stamping really hard on the pedal.HELP

Remove pedal and linkage, clean, regrease, refit.

Its quite a common problem.

I had this a month or so ago, and the above sorted it.

The odd spray around the foot peg/lever pivot point with WD40 helps too.

when this happens, i just either let the clutch out a bit then try again or blip the throtle a bit as you go down gears. Also have you checked your clutch adjustment?

Don't tread on it too hard Si otherwise you might break the lever.

 As wot he said.... did mine on Sunday after my Wet rideout on Thursday.
The foot peg was very stiff to turn so flushed it with WD40 and a few ( lots of turns and more WD40) too free it off.
My ride into work on Monday and my God what a differance.
Brill now =D>

A clean and regrease is really the only solution, WD40 will only postpone the problem, not cure it entirely.

When you say you broke the selector I hope you mean the gear lever?

The selector (forks and drum assembly), is a part inside the gearbox and would be a tad pricey to replace.

I hope for your sake you haven't broken any of the oily bits. How hard did you stamp on it?

Dan.
