View Full Version : Newbie Tyre Question
Just binned the old squared off tyres and fitted nice new curvacious ones. :D
Is it my imagination or
1) does the bike tip more quickly now when I counter steer?
2) appear to be much more smooth running/quiet

1) correct, it'll steer much nicer now, new tyres are great [FX fast show off]
2) Chain adjustment better post new tyres?

What did you go for? Some tyres have less feedback from the road, so could be smoother/quieter. Some riders prefer the feedback from the road, being more intouch with what's going on, etc. Maybe
1) does the bike tip more quickly now when I counter steer?
That will depend on the profile of the new tyre. Different tyres have diffeent profiles so if you've put on tyres with a sharper profile then yes it will tip in more quickly.
2) appear to be much more smooth running/quiet
Will be smoother as there's no "step" on either side of the tyre (yet) so the progression from being completely upright to leaning will be smooth, hence why new tyres always feel so wonderful. As for quiteness I'd guess that with them not being squared off there's less of a contact patch on the road when bolt upright. Also different tread patterns and tyre wall stiffness will create more or less noise.
What tyres have you put on anyway?

Same here, I've just had a new set on and the bike feels completely different now. Deffinately seems to pull better on the rear and the front feels higher up now :D leaning feels odd at the mo but the fronts just wearing in, i'll take it around some twisties and see how it feels then :D
Rightly or wrongly Metzler Z4s.
I wanted Z6s or Bridgestone 020s but according to my supplier there are no fronts in the country
:?

I wanted to get Z6s at my local dealership (after punctured rear am replacing both), and they said the same about there not being any front tyre available...what's all that about?
