Who's had trouble getting front sprocket nut off ?

Putting a new chain/sprocket set on after 12000 miles. Flattened the tab washer on the front sprocket and got a big torque wrench on the job. Won't budge, even when I give it a real heave-ho. Anyone had this problem? :(

yep. I had the socket extension propped up on an axle stand, and was in the process of bending the T-bar before drawing stumps.

ended up taking a trip round to a friends who has an air impact wrench, and off it popped simple as that.

Use a torque wrench to tighten it though.

Ta for that. For now I've given the thread a bit of penetrating lube and will give it another go in the morning. If it still won't budge I'll look for someone with air power.

put a decent bit of wood through the rear wheel against the swing arm, use a breaker bar 36" and lean on the bar. it will undo.

Thats wot I was doin when I nearly gave myself a hernia, but will have another grunt tomorrow. My big fear is the bugger slipping off under the load and me scraping the bike. Might break my fingers as well but that's not as important.

An overnight soak with some WD40, a bit of extra grunt, and the bugger finally shifted.

Noticed that there's the tab washer AND thread locking compound on the nut - belt and braces or what ??

And it needs it. When I replaced mine I used a new tab washer but no thread lock and it came loose......several times :?

Mmm........Thinks I'll redo with some threadlock. Better safe than sorry. More straining next time I guess :oops: :oops:

Funnilly enough, mine was still on its original chain until recently, which implies it'd never been touched since the factory... And the nut wa barely tight- undid it no problem with a 6" adjustabl wrench (didn't have a big enough socket at the time) The lock washer seemed to be the only thing holding it, but it had worked fine for about 14000 miles.

i had to buy an impact wrench to undo mine. it cranked for 4 or 5 seconds untill it came loose too, so that bugger was on there with at least twice the needed torque....dealers :roll:
