Nut/Screw Size on aftermarket indicators

Had a near miss with a white van man pulling into me last week but luckily just damaged the front indicator.

So just spent my day running around getting replacement indicators, soldering iron etc , only to find that if I solder on the OEM male/female connector onto the new aftermarket indicator I got from Hein gericke, I wont be able to fit the nut back on over the connector to put back on the bike :evil: Anyone else had this problem or know what I am talking about :oops: I 'think' the thread is M8 , and was wondering if anyone knows if Motrax ones are bigger so that I can get the connector through the nut!

had the same trouble but on a differnt bike only found out after i had put connectors on all four indicators. in the end had to lenghthen the wires put indicators on then solder on connectors

Can't say for sure but I think the Motrax ones are M10. Still not big enough for the stock connector IIRC.

:cry: Does this mean that I either
1) have to try and solder on the connector when the indicator is already on the bike (I only bought a soldering iron yesterday and would rather keep it far away from the bike! )
2) get completely new connectors ( any recommendations ) - but still the problem of the original male one attached to the bike
3) just stick the wires together with some tape!

I just soldered mine in situ- lots of newspaper! There's not many times it'll make any difference in practice, though you definately want to have some sort of connectors in case you're removing the panels at some point. I hard-wired my rear ones the first time, and what a PITA when it went wrong :)

who has mini indicators then?
which are the best?

do they all need blanks and diff size nuts and a soldering iron or can u crimp fit connect them?

You can connect any of them up however you want, but crimp terminals aren't generally recommended for outside applications. If you crimped and used loads of self-amalgamating tape or heatshrink that'd probably be fine, but I find it easier to just solder 'em.

As for what's best, that's a matter of taste. For bulbed ones though, I'd say the Motrax ones are better than the competition- they have a far better reflector than the HG and Oxford ones I've tried.
