View Full Version : How far is 'not far'?!
So you talk about going on a ride out, but how far is not far, what's average and how long is a piece of string?
Personally if the weather's good and I've nothing planned (or otherwise got my chores done) I can cover 150 miles and call it a really good run. Between 75 and 100 is average, 50 if I'm pushed for time, it's getting dark/cold or if various parts of my knackered old body are giving me grief.
So what's the average?
Que first post of 7 1/2"!
round about 100-150 miles is a good run as far as i'm concerned, but ive also enjoyed short 20 mile ones and long 500+ mile ones...
needless to say Im the around the world in 80 petrol stations....
after living in Oz where an average ride out was around 600ks [375 miles] I dont mind the distance. :D
nothing is very far, even if you take the long way, average sunday ride for me is minimum 250 miles, usually 400± but sometimes 600+
I'm going on a longer ride in a couple weeks, I expect 4,500± miles
Well, I've only done to Litchfield on my bike so far... and at the time it seemed REALLY far but I'm bigger and uglier now so it might seem a doddle. :D
K, you'll probably find out when I do!
So far in my short riding career, ~75 miles seems the average for one trip.... any less feels like you only just left!

I plan later in the year to do a 1500 mile trip to south of portugal.
I would possably say that it would be a long trip
Any takers for a holiday?
When I came up to Soho, it was nearly 200 mile round trip for (essentially) a cup of coffee.
Good to meet a few faces though! I'll be back!
A good rideout would be between 150 and 200 miles for me, that includes the stops for refreshments and having a laugh with the group taking the whole day. Short local blasts can be just as good though.
