Only handy if you're in the states, people turn RIGHT in front of us here. There they'll turn LEFT in front of you.
Also no mention of filtering which isn't allowed in the land of the free.

only in california, but I understand texas legislature is considering changing their laws
In Vermont, it's legal to pass on a solid line, sort of a form of filtering

wow. that must mean people dont save much time riding in comparison to driving!
thats assuming people actually stick to the law.

Oh right! Lest we forget the old tv show C.H.I.P.S - always riding two abreast, all the while managing to talk to each other when chasing down the bad guy... http://userpages.umbc.edu/~mg5/chips_bikes3.jpg

Well, on many of the larger highways around metropolitan areas we have HOV lanes (high occupancy vehicle) which are required to have more than one person in the automobile. These lanes tend to be mostly free of traffic, as people are stupid and drive themselves in their gas guzzling SUV [rant saved for another thread...] and cycles are allowed to drive in those lanes.
Soooo... You can do better than cars in most cases. But in full blown traffic your not supposed to split lanes in most of the states.
that's assuming people actually stick to the law.
...what??? :-dd

I'm not sure that'll happen. After all, it would involve billions of pounds, and we can't have money being spent on the roads, can we.
