I have lost my licence and moved to replace the licence is free but to change the address costs £19. As I am renting at the mo and could well be moving in 6months time I was wondering does it matter if your licence address is different to your home address? I ask because at the moment it is registered to my parents address, as I have been moving around allot (Uni etc) and was planning to leave it there till I actually buy a house.

Also apparently the story in MCN about people loosing their bike entitlement and have to retake their test isn't true according to the DVLA representative I spoke to.

I am in a similar situation. My license is registered to my parents address but the car and bike are both registered and insured at my current address. Apparently I heard somewhere that it is illegal to do this... :?

Anyone care to clarify?

That's a definate? When I first moved into Halls the DVLA told me to leave my lience registered to my parents address, hence the confusion.

What Ian said, but I've never not had my license, cars, bikes, bank accounts, credit cards and insurance registered at my parents house.
I move twice a year (student) so it would be pointless to reregister everything everytime, and it's not like a ticket won't get to me within a day or two of arriving.

Basically I am going to wait to get my license back from the DVLA/DSA whatever after having my DAS added to it and then I will change it...

Better safe than sorry I guess....

i think it's the other way round - free address changes, and pay a fee if you lose it

Yeah, I was thinking the same. I just looked on the dvla website, though, and they require your old license when you do an address change. I'm assuming they would try to charge you the £19 for a replacement first, just cos they can.

Cynical? Moi?

The person on the phone told me if I had just lost it then then it would be free but as I had to change the address I would be £19, maybe they were talking ********.

Clealy says £19 for a duplicate but free for a change of name and/or address.

Wrong way round...

to replace your licence is £19.... to change your address is free.

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/coa.htm (see bottom of page)

But, you're gonna have to pay because you lost your licence, and obviously can't show the old one.

So, get the new one, pay £19... with your address on it (make sure you're legal) and then you can change your address as much as you like.

Just read all those links.
My license is a minging green thing thats over 20 years old, looks like its been through the washing machine, but I'll be buggered if I'm going to pay £19 to renew it. I`ll wait until I move house, free then.

Silly Dumb DVLA cow  Ah well looks as though I'll have to fork out £19 anyway so may as well change the address.

Just make sure you get a licence. Many years ago (1989) I was given a producer and could not find my licence. Got fined £25

Even worse the summons stated that "on further investigation, it was established that Mr Wilkinson did hold a full licence" So they were just jobsworths. Don't repeat my experience

So is mine, except that it has been through the washing machine.

nah, if you do a change address they don't charge you to change to the photo type.

tbh, I've had no problems and 18 months ago I did a change of address, then I had to send it away for the 3 points, then I had to send it away when I passed the bike test. Came back within a couple of days each time.

had problems with mine as i sent it off for some points and then it apparently got lost in the post on the way back. The post office sent me the replacement fee of £19 (twice!) when i complained about 6 months later.
