OK so which you prefer
I hate pound coins, especially as I normally end up with a pocket full of them after a night out and it makes my jeans really heavy on one side

I did have some half pennys somewhere..
I remeber when my dad sent me up the road to get him some smokes(i was only about 8 or 9!) and I dropped the pound coin in the field... So he gave me a pound note as I couldn't loose that...
Why not get rid of hard cash all together and pay for everything with plastic (credit/debit cards).
Oh and had to go with the don't care option!
We still have pound notes in Scotland, about 20 years after Lawson killed 'em off south of the border. Nowadays it's only the Royal Bank of Scotland who produce them and there are less and less in circualtion.
Personally I couldn't care as I end up spending coins and notes exactly the same.
Why not get rid of hard cash all together and pay for everything with leaves and stones?
I'll give you six leaves, three stones and a shot of my camel for a packet of Pannini stickers and a half cup of sugar.
When you're a student, either will do nicely :P
Prefer coins I think. It seems like an insufficient value to be a note.
I miss the old Italian Lira where you could get something like 2,200 for £1. Made me feel rich - then those Euro meddlers came along and as a result their money's now as dull as ours.

if you don;t like copper just drop it in the charity box or chuck it at a pigeon or something... Or post it to me!
Pound notes seem a good idea till you've got a thousand of the worthless scabby things to count. Since they're worth b*****-all they get mangled, dropped, torn up, etc, and so when they come back to the banks they're like mangled bits of rag. Won't go through any bulk counter known to man, so you get to spend ages hand counting them, and because they fall apart/rip/are cpovered in tape/have bits missing they take ages to count.
Don't care as long as the local landlord accepts them in exchange for beer.

And even fewer 10/- notes!
A ten bob note felt ever so good when you got one in a birthday card. Much better than a half crown or two sellotaped inside.

I used to get my pocket money in Groats :P
When I started work, my wage was £4 a week, it felt much more if I got 8 ten bob notes.
I could fill my Raleigh Wisp up, get ****ed and fall off it and still afford the bus fare home :D

Penny Falls? There's still millions of 'em out there. I love 'em, you can get a pound in 2ps, spend an hour playing and still have more or less a pound in 2ps.
10p Falls are more exciting though... I won £20 in the Trocadero playing the 10p machines once :)

:) i am not wealthy enough to play the 10p ones
i like it when you get those little prizes that take for ever to get from the back of the machine to the front then when you finally win the prize it gets stuck in the chute & you can't reach it to get it out.

You would be if you won £20 on them :) It was great, the machines had £2 coins laid about on the top of the 10Ps, and every so often if you dropped your 10p at the right moment you got a lucky dip thing to try and win more... Add into this that it was all wee kids playing so you could look for the machiens that were ready to drop and the sky's the limit!
