What the hell are chicken strips when refering to a bike?

it's the shiny bit on the outer edges of your tyres where you haven't leaned the bike over enough to wear them down. It a measure of lean.

Not to worry. Don't be tempted to get rid of them all today though as the shiny bit can bit less grippy so you need to be smooth and gradual - that's if you want to get them reduced, some people are really bothered by them but I think most riders don't even look.

Redeye....removal of chicken strips, knee down to ground, wheelies, stoppies and burn outs have no real relevance in the real world of biking. There are those that will disagree but being able to achieve any of the above does not I believe make you any more competant a rider. 8)

If you really want to get ri of them, there is a sure fire way, regardless of tyre profile..............................Get a kitchen scouring pad - the green one and rub away

All small chicken strips do is show that you just have confidence in the tyres ability to grip. They don't mean your a quick rider, nor that you're dangerous; it's pub talk really.
Most people get rid of them slowly as they learn, without thinking about it. It just happens as they get more experienced.
Having said that, I've seen a Gixxer thousand with 3" chicken strips. That made me laugh

Does anyone know of people taking mild sandpaper (or something similar) to their tyres to get rid of the chicken strips, purely for aesthetic reasons? Although I suppose mildly practical too, in that if you suddenly need to get it further over than normal, the rubber would be scrubbed in and less likely to skid.
Not that I'm thinking of doing it- stock dunlops, so people would never believe they had really been worn down :D- just intrigued after reading about the try-hards with second hand knee sliders...

I've know someone to sand their tyres down, but to scrub them in rather than aesthetics as it was mid winter and slippery. But I'm not sure I could be bother, seemed to take him ages to do. Knee sliders being ground down by hand - now that is sad.
ive thought about using sandpaper on tyres, purely to wear them in (i got my new tyres in winter)
didnt bother in the end, mainly cos im a lazy git and it was an excuse to ride the bike :)
there was one bloke who we used to know,
he tuurned up one day on his 400cc and his sliders were used !!!!
we all ask him about his knee down experiences, he gets big headed and gloats a bit . . . . . . .
til we ask him why his scrape marks are on the wrong side of the slider :)
wwe havent seen him since :)

Cracking!. Easy mistake to make as without looking you could think the front edge of the slider might get worn first. Bet he was just a little embarassed.

A guy in the Chiswick Honda kit shop said another shop he knows was doing a good business in used knee sliders!
There's obviously a demand out there!

ive seen a couple on ebay for good money.
but his face confirmed that he didnt do that.

I have little respect for PETA after seeing one of their reps on TV. Made the Sun look like balanced journalism. Lots of exaggeration, very little logic, an attitude more akin to something born of religious fanaticism rather than a desire for enlightened humane treatment of animals. I can well believe the right's suggestions that PETA funds animal rights extremists.
Also, the Kentucky Fried Cruelty site is a bit gash/shock tactic based. I've seen one of their other videos and they try to put across that cutting the chicken's beaks short (to stop them pecking each other) is horribly cruel and painful. It's not- chickens beaks are made of a similar material to fingernails and horses hooves and contain no nerves. Still, makes for shocking footage for someone who doesn't know this, so they whack it on the tape
As for the statements:
"most chickens are concious when their throats are cut",
how do you think most chickens are traditionally killed? You think farmers on small independant farms spike their grain with sedative, wait till they're asleep and then decapitate them in one fell swoop?
and
"their natural lifespan is 10-18 years"
Balls. More like 5 years, 10 absolute tops (depending on the variety).
Pam love, stick to what you do best, harming the environment due to the swathes of forests that are cut down to make tissues used up as a result of your soft porn antics.
I used to keep chickens, in case you're wondering how I know this.
Whoops, anyway, back on topic: just checked my chicken strips, close to 2cm, but then I do have stock dunlops on and I'm not fast round bends by any means.

I saw a video from petatv involving skinning animals for fur. I won't go into details here but suffice to say I had to stop it after a minute or so. And I was watching most of it through the tears in my eyes - and I'm not usually one to give a sh*t about animal rights!
because KFC use privately owned slaughter farms in this country (that supply to UK KFC's) , and as a company they are very strict indeed on animal rights. basically they are just like any other slaughter house in this country.
do you honestly think KFC would risk bad rep and possibly being disallowed to trade in the UK by cutting a few unneccicary corners.
oh and BTW, dunno if you remember, PETA were circulating rumours that KFC were breeding chickens with no feathers and wings ?
doesnt that video contradict that ? as you can clearly see the feathers on the birds, and KFC sell hotwings dont they ? no wings? where would they come from?
and why would they bother, the cost of creating a new breed of chicken though messing with the gene's would far outweigh the cost of using proper bog standard chickens . . . so what would the point be ?
interfering with the gene's to make bigger chickens . . more meat ?
if you havent noticed, you can get bigger bits of chicken at tesco's.
