hi im 37 and had a 1980 gs1100 bout 10 years ago as my first bike (yeah i know way too heavy , way too fast..was stupid) for about 6 months.....anyhow i want a bike to 'learn' on and to tour 240 miles to my relatives.

i have about $4k to spend american which i see can get me about an '03 sv650 with ~5k miles pretty ez...im 6' 210 lbs im wondering if the sv is a good choice or the svs? or can u recommend a different kind of bike, thanx.

also any advice on what to keep an eye out for when looking at these used?

thanx ! :)

the sv is a great choice i have a 2002 sv650 and i am 6'2 220 and the bike does great. it has full fairings and a full hindle exhaust and i think it has enough power.{thats assuming you were worried about power} i ride about 100 miles a day and i think i is comfortable{corbin seat} but i think you are on the right track with 4k american dollars the sv is a great choice

For touring 240 miles on a regular basis I might have a look around for other options, although I'm not sure what's out there for similar money. The SV is a great bike and would suit your needs, faired version would be better for touring as your have less wind friction, and can hide a little behind the fairing, providing you can handle the slightly sportier riding position.

I think it's worth going for a test ride on both.

My only doubt is the SV isn't built for long distance comfort, although comfort can be upgraded with such things as a gel seat. It's certainly not the most uncomfortable bike around.
