View Full Version : Kmh or Mph?
Just sitting here reading the latest copy of RiDE (May) and came across on page 78 Q & A section, a question regarding converting the Speedo from kmh to mph by a rider of a k3 SVs in Germany. Fair enough good question.
It’s the reply that really surprised me. Ride recommend that the rider buys a Motrax electronic converter for £60.
So are SV650s k3 different in Germany? cause I’ve converted mine to kmh by accident (and back again) by just pressing a few buttons. Cost £0.00.
So if RiDE would like to send me £60 I’ll tell ‘em how to do it.

how did you do it???
£60 is in the post to you
Can't remember - I think it's as simple as pressing the adjust button.
Just been out to check, how sad is that.
All you do is..
Press the Select button until you get the ODO reading then hold down the Adjust button until the Speedo switches over.

  you should tell ride of there mistake
for the first 2 weeks i had my bike i rode it in kph until i realised it did that trick when i finally read the manuel  do'h, thought cos it was built/made by suzuki(japs) it only came in kph & i had to adjust it ](*,)
had the bike nearly 2 years and only found out about this function a couple of weeks ago, the bike came back from a service and for some reason the read out was in KPH so after messing about with the buttons it changed back to MPH.
:? Yes the German Speedo or Tachometer is diffrent, it only has Kph and not Mph...'cos I had to buy the internal PCB on my arrival back into the UK
feel lucky the lot of u, iv judt got a dial with speed in KPH on my SV400S.
Well if it helps the American Speedo unit also switches from Kph to Mph onlt differance I can see is the Temp. readout is in F not C.

I found it out by accident a while back (was trying to reset the tripmeter). Useful feature if touring in France. Well done Suzuki!
Ironically, I wonder if it's because it's a budget bike that it has this, due to them only making a standard speedo and then 'setting' it for different countries. Anyone know if more pricey bikes have changeable speedos?
Yes, a mate of mines Aprillia does the same.
A sort of related question - On a 2000 curvy SV, can you change the ODO to read out in Miles not KM?
I'm pretty sure the answer's no but when I bought the bike a few years back I didn't realise it was a Euro import (until I'd done some distance and thought I was getting 200 miles to a tank.) On the plus side, I thought I was buying a 12k miles bike and it turned out to be less :D
The Speedo clock face is in MPH with KPH on the inner ring by the way.

You can't do it as standard, but there are units you can buy which will convert from the speedo drive, before it reachs the odo, so everything added from then on will be in miles.
Will make your speedo odd, though, since you'll then have to read the kph bit to get the mph.
