took mine off after reading this !!!........
the wife fell off pillion today !!!
putting it back on tomoz !!
the wife fell off pillion today !!!
 Hope she's okay?
The "love handles" belt is far better at giving a pillion something to grab hold of while giving them more confidence. I know it may look at bit silly but my wife won't ride pillion without it.

I was assuming that was a joke as the thread was only created at 1800... if not i'm really sorry for laughing (quite a lot) at your wifes misfortune!
Greg - is that some sort of easy excuse to keep out of the gym? No love, i can't work out, you'll have nothing to hold on to.
So I whacked the suspension on hardest (lol) this is temporary until I get some dogbones, or whatever!
Well the only adjustment on the SV's shock is preload, so it's the same stiffness at every setting, it's just the height of the rear that's changed very slightly and is used to compensate for a change in weight.
As for grab handles well I find it difficult to imagine putting the SV on a rear paddock stand without one. Mine's staying put ;).

Actually I've been meaning to speak to you about gyms (need to tone up and get fit).

Well err, I rather liked the look of the grab rail on my K3. As Jonboy mentioned it is also a Godsend for putting the bike on paddock stand single handedly.I do not risk this with the Duke as nothing to get hold of,plus I have amended my Micron stand with longer studs to fit into the axle bolts at either side which requires a bit of juggling.
My son also misses it as he is the only pilion I take on the bike. He is a smart little sod though he tends to place his arms around me so that he can put his hands on the tank to brace himself under braking along with a sizeable squeeze in with the knees which I swear makes me grow an inch or two in height as he does it!
On take off/pull away he just grabs a fistfull of my jacket at the sides. work out Jonboy? oh the pleasure and the pain! I am back on my sit up machine! It's a buggar but has to be done! :? 8)
I've got a rear seat cowl on Black - but I have left the grab rail on (not for pillions though, never take'em myself).
Number of reasons - the OEM cowl for a curvey doesn't have anything to fill in the gaps left by the missing grab rail - which looks poo.
Because it's a curvey the grab rail doesn't ruin the lines quite as much as on this modern pointy trash.
But mostly because if I'm hooning off for a weekend or night away I'd rather take a tailpack than a rucksack. Leaving the grab rail on makes it so much more secure than without. Simple as that really.

I took mine off when I got a seat cowl but I had to put it back on. So now I have a seat cowl and a grab rail on a k4. I had to put it back on to get it out of my garage everyday, which goes straight onto an uphill drive (you drive down it into the garage) and without the grab rail I had nothing to push against.
Sorry this is one I have to disagree on... Th bike just looks so flat with the grab rail off, where as the grab rail on gives the rear end a little upsweep at the end. Looks great...
I suppose if I raised the rear end it would be okay, but not planning that so it stays. :)

Girlie.

Grab rail & seat cowl - It's like a little spoiler as Joe said once...
Keeping the grab rail, I like the look of it and its handy for bungeeing bags to the bike. I will be getting a seat cowl though.

I have a seat cowl and have the grab rail off - was thinking of raising the rear end.
Does this really make much of a difference to the hieght on a stock sv650s (curvy)? and does it make much difference to handling or only a bit?!?!

Ach, no!
Grab rail with solo seat cowl is just wrong.
Grab rail and seat or no grab rail and seat
I'll be leaving the grabrail on mine. The Missus likes to come on a ride now and then. The V-Twin vibes save me having to do all that foreplay crap when we get home

I'd take the grab rail off, if I had any saddle shutters to put in it's place.
Sod the pillions, I'll get some love handles (to add to my growing collection)
Steady on fella
Girlie.

Ooooh, goodie! I've never won anything before! :D
Took mine off before the ink dried on my ownership papers. Horrid thing. (persona opinion of course) Never had a pilon brave enough to hold onto it anyway.
