25mph down wood lane, sheperds bush, bright and dry, lights on, yellow bike etc and one of the parked cars decides to do a U-turn. I barely had time to think' Christ he's not stopping before BANG! and all of a sudden I'm on my back five feet in front of the car. Fantastic passers by came over immediately and made sure I didn't try to get up too quick. All I could think about was 'Hey I feel okay, I think I got away with it!' and all I kept saying was ' Dont let him get away!! get his number!! As it was I had made a huge dent in the drivers side wing of a toyota, the headlight all smashed off. I had been neatly flipped over the bonnet and onto the deck landing on my shoulder. I've never been so glad that I always wear leathers, back protector etc.
Of course this would happen just after two new tyres and K&N andDynojet.. Hope they dont write the damn thing off as the repair bill is going to be £1500( Thanks Bill Bunn Motorcycles Ealing, top shop) and my trusty k2 with 30,000 miles cant be worth much more than two and a half.
The real pain in the **** about all this is that even though its a no fault accident and helphire have given me a lovely VFR800 VTEC to play with, The money for a replacement helmet, torn glove and scraped leathers won't be appearing for months. the coppers said they intend to prosecute him with driving without due care and attention, I know thats a token thing but he never even said sorry although he told the police ' I just didn't see him' I would have ridden home after a moment to compose myself but the gear lever was long gone!
VFR is huge, heavy, almost like a car really. I can see why people like them though, very comfy, sounds like a ferrari and just about as fast.
Cant wait to get old faithful back though. like Big Ape says: ALWAYS WEAR YER FERKIN LEATHERS! :)

Sounds like a bit of a scary moment, I wish coppers would start treating car drivers like school kids when it comes to excuses 'I just didn't see him' sorry son you used that one last week, your going to have to come up with a better excuse .... you can't .... oh well its a nice hefty fine and a prison sentance for you ... no that would be justice :D

Oh and glad your ok :D:D:D:D
Glad you're okay, sorry to hear about your bike. Hope the claim goes through as painlessly as possible.
.
glad you are not badly done in.
i used helphire when i had a ding last year.
keep on top of them - they are very slow (IMHO) at dealing with stuff. i managed to get a cheque for bike and kit turned around in a matter of weeks by going direct to the other parties insurers. left to helphire it would have taken twice that time.
good luck with it all
will.

im gutted for u mate, i know how it feels javing had almost the exact same thing happen to me. my guy is getting done for driving with due care too, although im told they are offered a place on a driving course instead of a punishment if found guilty. i know its bad, but i want the guy punished :?
anyway, glad ur ok! thats the main thing. i was and still am quite worried about riding again, i admire u for getting on one again so soon.
as for saying 'i didnt see him', well i think its a very poor excuse. but only today i nearly pulled out infront of a car while driving my corsa! i really think the pillars block alt of vision. i normall;y hate car drivers but i was honestly amazed that i nearly pulled infront of someone today from literlly not seeimg them. a poor excuse i know, but if u dont see someone what can u do?
keep with it and good luck on the insurance front.

My biggest worry is pulling out infront of a bike cause i hadnt seen it, afterall, thoses of us that drive cars know that bikes ARE mnore difficult to see, and mopve so quick, there one minute gone the next!!
Any way, glad your ok and hope everyhting gets sorted asap for you!
keep with it and good luck on the insurance front
Most important is that you were not too badly injured, second to that is that you are still on two wheels.
Best of luck with the claim, although it seems like the whole thing is cut and dry as far as blame goes.
Moved to Biking Issues.
omg... glad youre ok...
hope everything gets sorted but if you have any problems with insurers you may wish to use the letter I posted and substitute u turn for right turn...

Dohhhhh...That really sucks mate.Thank heavens you were travelling at a sedate pace. Surely there must be a case for civil action against him for your damaged gear? After all his comment,(whether it be a result of shock or not) leaves no room for manouvre does it?
I just hope this is not another case of the innocent footing a hefty bill that is not their own responsibility. :? 8)

Sorry to hear of your off, main thing is you are telling the tale...
The leather gear looks more "real" that way in my opinion.
My suit is in the same state. shame about the lid and gloves though, but on the up side better them than your skin
Chin up and hope things go your way insurance wise.
Darryl
Glad your ok mate.
Its the start of (so called) summer now, so all the idiot drivers are getting even more idioitic.
Hope your insurance stuff gets sorted as soon as :)

Sorry to hear about your off and hopefully you should have no problems getting the insurance sorted, the bike shouldn't be written off unless the damage is something like 80% of the value of the it but you could always buy it back if you wanted.
The same thing happened to me and the first thing the guy that hit me said as I was picking myself up of the floor and unable to put any weight on my left leg was "we don't have to go through insurance do we? He was done with driving without due care an attention. I couldn't wait to get back on my bike afterwards.
Glad your ok too   I think most of us have had a car do a u-turn on us at one point or another. Had it happen to me in 2003 and have only just got the money through the post last WEEK!!!!
Every time I see that advert on the telly I have to look away :( seems like most car drivers do but not for the same reasons
