View Full Version : Urgent Help needed..
Just had a call from the girl who bought me SV.
She just got pulled at a meeting for the race can. She now has to have the standard can put back on and report to the station (not unusual). But the policeman (attitude problem apparently) has demanded that the can be fitted by a garage, and has demanded proof from the garage...
Is this demand normal??
Cheers for your help peeps.

wudnt have thght so!!
pipe will be cut anyway !! dont understand that
mayeb he was on a power trip cos she is a female biker ! pras he got off on it..
bottom line htough- u sold the bike- aint your prob no more !!
Actually very unusual,
1st the police have better things to do than to check bikes at the station so they issue a rectification notice that must be signed by an MOT station, the notice is then produced to the police station
2 nd the police can not issue a decree that the can must be fitted by a garage,
I think she has mixed up the instruction she was given.

I'm pretty sure that he can give a rectification notice or a fixed penalty for it. He can't make any specification as to how the rect notice is conformed to, since he's not an MOT tester, the guy who signs it is.

They can give you a rectification notice, but this only means that an approved MOT testing station must sign the notice to approve that the defect has been put right, I think that they cannot enforce you to have the work done by a garage though.
Sounds like he talking rubbish to me....

why she not on here asking us helpful people? you told her about this place?
demanding fixed by a garage and proof sounds like a rectification notice tbh... think Patch is right maybe she confused what he meant...
Have explained the situation to her, she seems happy to hear it, but i have somehow been talked into taking the can to her... round the other side of the M25...
Not happy!! Her step dad is blaming me....
How am i at fualt, the bike was sold with an advertised race can, and she has signed a sold as seen notice...
Not happy at all!!!
THIS is why you need a tame MOT tester!

not surprised, its not your fault.
Every time any one of us rides with race cans we take the risk of getting pulled but either we accept it and ride with them or we put the standard can back on...
She bought as seen and signed, did she ask about the standard can? and whether it was part of sale? think they should come get it as its not your fault/problem.
Or tell her you want the race can back and will swap it for the standard can then flog it on ebay... :D
but at the end of the day its a case of caveat emptor...
The MOT'ers are not a problem.. the 'e' mark the police want is the problem....
dropping it off tomorrow.. got her to meet me some of the way... still a pain in the **** though... as i am on nights all week... but tomorrow is my last night shift.. YIPEE!!!!

I can't believe it, the first time I go to a bike cafe and the pigs gets me. I've even been pulled on my scooter, just for the fact I was a blonde young girl.
I did know about this site, I'd just never got round to signing onto it.
Going up to my local police station to complain about the pc's attitude anyway, but as DeeJay has said, the pc was so rude to me and said that it had to be fitted and stamped by a garage.
Thanks for all your messages anyway, and thanks DeeJay for your help. I promise there'll be no more problems! x x x
well at least this has gotten you on the site Laura... see ya tomorrow...

Scandelous!! Best post your pic so we can see why ;)
Hey, sometimes we have to put ourselves out a bit to help another biker, so hats off to Dejay.
As for the attitude issue, well some people are just gits, and some of those wear uniforms. I try to take the attitude that gits don't feature in my life, and I'm not letting one impose themselves on me. Once they walk away that's the end of it. Put it away. If you get worked up by a to$$er then they've won, and you'll meet an awful lot of them in your lifetime and to be blunt life is too short to give them the time. Once you've stepped in one dog turd, just try to avoid doing it again.
...and I'm with the others on the fitting business. It's up to you who does the rectification, it just needs to be stamped by an appropriate place. Were not quite a Police state just yet, even though Blunkett is back!!

I agree with burner on this issue :D
But welcome to the site and hope this is the last of PC plod, it might be worth investing in a can with a removable baffle, then you can just laugh and put the baffle back in if you get bothered again :)

So, have I got this right? You're young, blonde and female, and we are all shocked that men in uniform keep asking for your address????
What is this world coming to?

I live in Sidcup and can't believe she saw a policeman. Didn't see one when my car got nicked from my drive

I agree with you Sidcup just don't seem to have any police anymore. When I went there to make a complaint about this pc, the opening hours are only 12-4! Lazy pigs! Even if the police decided to show themselves in SIdcup, they don't know how to do their job. When my scooter got stolen by the gypsies, first they didn't even log the call, then when they came round to my house, they told me to go and look for it myself. They even said they knew who would do it (once I told them a name of who I suspected, they agreed), then they told me what field it would be in, 'cos that's where they burn all the bike and cars they nick. Was on the front of the weekly News Shopper because of it, so you've probably seen me!
This bike is well protected, this time. It takes me about half an hour to unlock it but at least that should warn off those that think they can get away with it.
Well if you fit the correct can yourself a get a MOT done.. what 15 quid. Then your bike is now conforming surely inorder to pass the MOT?
God what are you guys like when blonde is mentioned   In the three years I've been riding I've not been stopped once (Crossed fingers)
ANYWAY welcome to the site  , maybe deejay can drag you along to soho one night to meet us all  second thoughts maybe get someone who knows how to get there    bring you in.

I wish I could get stopped by a blonde with a loud can.
Hang on ,have I got the wrong end of this thread?
Though on this occasion it seems that the police were somewhat out of order, it would be much appreciated if they weren't referred to as "pigs".
There are several members of this community that are police officers and a good example of those that are fair and reasonable. Apart from not wishing to offend them, we try very hard to be courteous to all regardless of occupation.
That said, welcome to this forum BB ;).

Flippin heck! Bad luck, a somewhat rare occurance to be pulled for a can and made to do anything about it.
oooopsy, oh well early days, hopefully this will be your last pull in a biking sense..
welcome to the site

No, not on this forum. In other areas of your life feel free, but not here. This is an important issue. Please be understanding, it would be much appreciated, many thanks.

Here Here. That makes me look back on my days as a designer with fondness.

someone told me about this on Friday. With that attitude Im not surprised you got a rectification notice...
its hard not to show it and if you get their back up and you are riding round with, and knowingly with, an illegal can then what do you expect?
you just got to learn to chill and take it as a fact of life. that or just keep the standard can on.
