Just wanted to say hi and start off with a quick question.

My boyfriend (mpaton2005) always says to me "if you even need to know anything about bikes and i'm not around, go on sv650.org" so here i am...

I'm in the process of trying to get the chain "gunk" of my bike and someone recommended that i use meths but i dont have any, will white spirit do the same job?

Hey,

I'd be dubious of using white spirit as it could damage the o-rings in the chain, though I'm not sure of this. Paraffin works very well or WD40 if it's all you've got.

its not the actual chain im trying to get the gunk off, its the metal part just in fron of the back tyre (although i doubt thats the technical term  ) will wd40 be ok on that too?

P.S. just incase that part doesnt even exist on an SV, i have a suzuki vanvan

If you mean the spiky metal thing that the chain goes round, that's called the rear sprocket, all chain driven bikes have one of those.
Will be fine for cleaning that.

Are they chain driven without a rear sprocket? I'd like to see that!

As Carsick says, WD40 or paraffin for removing the sticky gunk that's either on the chain, the sprockets, the wheel or the swingarm (bit that holds the wheel on).

Interestingly Pledge or Mr Sheen will do nicely too.

It took them 40 attempts to get formula right. The even have a fan club you will find them at: http://fanclub.wd40.com/login.cfm

Doesn't the WD stand for water displacement?

On the Triumph site you normally get things like top invention ever

WD 40

Worst invention ever

Little red straw that comes with WD 40

i'm surprised they managed to keep hold of one long enough to test it, anything that comes with a little red straw its like you buy it, the guy in the shop puts it in a carrier bag, you get out the shop and the straw has disappeared!

Hawkwind must be nearly as old as theRolling Stones.Do they still have wotshername dancing for them.Must be a great grandmother by now. They used to tour the country and just turn up and play, often for free.It would all be illegal now of course.

One piece of advice. beware of overspray near brakes and tyres

Best sprayed onto a rag and then some vigourous rubbing. ;)
