I just want to apologise for my unfortunate outburst this morning. It was totally out of order.
I fear that I have burnt a few too many bridges to be welcome back to the forum. I have enjoyed my time on here, and wish you all well for the future.
I feel that my time will be better spent riding the SV, which, is really what its all about.
Once again, sorry.
Happy SV ing.
Steven.

As someone whos had an outburst on this forum recently I can understand how you feel.

But the good thing about this place is that everyone knows we all have our bad days and occasionally we can't control what we do.

As admin2 said, it would be a shame for you to go. So let things calm down, people make mistakes in all forms and you'll find most people here are forgiving of that. Its what makes it a special place. :D

PS. admin the idea of a spell checker is good. The CBR forum is run with the same software and they have one on there.... just a thought for those of us who do honestly have dyslexia and take hours to type a post :(

Personally I don't think there is anything to apologise for.

What an honest post saying that half of the posts in these here forums are badly typed, ill informed, illiterate, or complete and utter garbage. Why apologise for that?

A few spelling mistakes can be understood, we all do it, but some people just take the **** with it, as for the lack of grammer and punctuation, how many times have we seen the response "and breath"?

Also why is it that people can never seem to find the appropriate forum for thier post? The tyre forum is there for posts relating to tyres, the exhaust forum is for posts regarding exhausts, etc, etc, it's not rocket science.

I think more people should take a bit more time actually reading what they type and post. Would certainly stop people having to go and buy an enigma machine just to reply.

That's my opinion and I don't really care if you agree with it or not. :P

lynw

The objection was in the way it was phrased. As has been said before, those of us who are truly dyslexic find it hard enough to deal with things without being labelled lazy or uneducated.

It was hard work getting my degree, and you try being a tax inspector when your head messes up the order of the figures. I spend an hour more on my visits than most because I have to really be careful... I love word because it spell checks for me. I do most things in Excel because its easy to recheck quickly and correct the times I get it wrong way round.

I too found that slightly hurtful, but from reading Steve H's posts in this thread I appreciate the point he was making which wasn't clear in the locked thread.

I think he has a valid point to some degree. But you have to remember not everyone is a perfect touch typist, and we're human and make mistakes with spelling and grammar.

I dont usually have a problem with bad spelling or grammar in posts. The posts I have difficulty reading are where an amount of text is posted without being split into paragraphs.

Try doing anything when your head does that, its really really annoying, its called number blindness

see here http://www.brainconnection.com/topics/?main=fa/number-blindness

As did I, I dont think it was very tactfully put and personally I can do without reading that kind of thing. But Steve had to good grace to publically apologise so :notworthy: for that as that takes some guts

I always make sure I read back my posts before I post them just to make sure I havent included any typo's and also that they make sense.

I've never seen anybody post that as a reason for bad spelling, I've got mild dyslexia, I just make sure I double check my post first, I do struggle more with it when I am tired and stressed though.

I think that we should just live and let live, if you can be tolerant a bit of bad spelling and work out what the posters intention was then fine if you can't just politely ask them to explain what it is they are getting at.

Alex - I've never had a problem with what you post and the way that you post it, not getting at you here.

Never thought u were gettin at me mate!! :D

My spelling is usually atrocious as i type too quickly as i usually sneak posts in at work,

and just to bore everyone, the condidtions of my dyslexia are such that i can think faster than my hand can write and type, and what i think doesnt end up on the page or the screen, .

i find sequencing difficult too, hence the dogy spelling, numbers can be pain in the ****, but not all the time,

The other problem i have is proof reading, i cant spot my mistakes...which is also a pain...but hey ho, im only 20, so with any luck ittl get better with time....

fizzwheel
12-05-05, 10:12 PM
Mine is different, it is only mild, but sometimes I get the correct letters in the words, but in the wrong order, or I will write or type a word and it just looks spelt wrongly when it isnt. I get the thing with where to put the c when in relation to ie wrong alot to.

I have real trouble with sequencing of big colums of numbers and they always swim and jumble around in front of me, I was told I was poor at maths because of this and labelled by one particular teacher as stupid.

I find that I tend to get most of my spelling right. Probably because Im aware of my problem so I tend to be on the lookout for it and spot it. I tend to find it takes a while to post things because a lot of the time Im correcting those errors.

And they tend to increase the more tired and stressed I am aswell.

But as fizz said, live and let live. :grouphug:

As a parent of a child with dyslexia, I am amazed that anyone can take the p out of this condition. When your children are born, you imagine them in 20-30 years time in the role you had always evisaged for yourself, if you had been given the opportunities and help that you know you will give to your offspring. (Well I did) just to see your dreams for them shattered as they go through school and emerge emotionally scared.

Those of you who do suffer from this condition, I admire your determination to overcome the condition and get on with your lives as normally as possible.

IMHO personally because they are tucked down away at the bottom of the page and newbie's don't always see those sections, also I find I get a quicker response if I put a post in the tuning and tweaking rather than the correct section.

Also it says reviews at the top of that section, which implies stating an opinon of a product. Therefore you cant expect question on how to fit a new can in the exhaust section IMHO.

iwas very lucky that my mum and dad were v suportive...my dad is heavily dyslexic and it took him years to admit being a proud male,

I have problems when i was at school when all my frinds where straight a students ans i was gettign work back with "must work on ur spelings" or simmillar,
I was lucky enough tto go to a proper examination place, and got certified, this meant come my GCSE' i had my own little seperate room to do them in, which meant i left school with 5 A's 3b's and 2 c's and hve gone on to completed an onc at college and now completing the HNC next month (if i ever finish my college work)

The best thing you can do for somone who suffers is to offer assistance when they ask....

the number of times i threw my maths books at the wall, i lost count...

When pll meet me they laugh if they find out im dyslexic cause they dont believe me.... im flattered but sometimes it can really get me down.....but usually its ok.

I have problems when i was at school when all my frinds where straight a students ans i was gettign work back with "must work on ur spelings" or simmillar,

I had this all the time at school... Problem was I was always a really good reader and so none of the teachers took it seriously, they all choose instead that I was lazy.

Now I'm learning Dutch with my syster in law it seems there is a reason I read so well. I don't read whats on the page. I readhalf the words and put the rest together. This makes reading Dutch really difficult as I don't know enough of the language to do it properly. So we tried an experiment - reading an English book outloud. I found I have serious problems with this as well. I can read each of the words, but I can't put a sentence together, I get lost about halfway. For this reason I can't proof read anything and whatever i write suffers for it. I get my colleagues (sp?) to check anything I write these days if it's going beyond our own team...

Anyone know what the name of this condition is, I've been told it's not dyslexia, but is a known problem, not me simply being lazy...

This forums isn't that bad for picking up spelling errors, on a different forum I use if the is an apostrophe in the wrong place you'll get five people telling you to learn to spell.

That's why I didn't post my recent tyre question in that section as I thought they were for product reviews and as I was asking about any specific brand or model but a much more general tyre question. If you read the descriptions of the sections some questions can fall under a few sections.
