can we get away with it as we are bikes, did i just get a really stingy traffic warden, and is there any way of getting out of it??
There was no NO PARKING signs anywhere i could see, just some loading signs, but it aint as if the bike takes up much room!!!

Dispute it!
I think thats taking the mickey somehow..... i wouldnt take that.....
Here's something you could try: Write to them and say that your tax disc wasn't on the bike, you had put it into your pocket to stop it from being stolen, never realizing that it was needed in order for them to issue a ticket.
Now that a policeman friend has pointed this out to you (and the fact that you can't retrospectively be prosecuted for failing to display it) you would like them to cancel the issing of the ticket as it was obviously done unlawfully and is therefore null and void.

Which is why my tax disc is under the seat :)
As above dispute it.
If there were/are no signs saying you can't and common sense dictate's that it wouldn't be a problem you not parking there! Take them to the cleaners.
As for the tax disc missing stopping you being issued a ticket, I wouldn't agree as why would someone who doesn't have a disc not get a ticket? That would just give people another reason not to bother paying £60 for a disc when a parking ticket charges £30+.

It's just a question of legal procedure. If the correct procedure isn't followed then the ticket isn't legally binding and will be thown out of court.

On the road...on a pavement....in a off road parking thing?
can you be more specific please.

its a sort of off road pavement parking for push bikes, ill get a pic if you want. many bikes park there before, and no people walk on their either. if you know bournemouth, then its the little patio shape like thing outside consortium, casa, and yellow river near the square.
i even got follwed by a police officer on my old bike, i stopped and parked their, and he only asked me a couple of questions and didnt say anything about me parking there!!
i got a ticket for the same thing, disputed it, and lost

I'd dispute it on the grounds that your vehicle is a bicycle. Post them a copy of the tax/reg documentaiton- it'll say 645cc bicycle. :)

if you admit to not displaying your tax disc what's to stop them fining you for that?
i thought it was your number plate you were supposed to cover for that "dodge"

As I posted, they (DVLA not the police) can't prosecute you retrospectively for not displaying a tax disc.

I once had a parking ticket for being "outside the lines". Took pics and disputed it and they cancelled the ticket. Best thing would be to take pics of where your bike is (was now in your case) and also pics showing there were no parking restriction signs anywhere. I am assuming there were no yellow, double yellow, red or double red lones either? But just for the record, push bikes space is not for motorbikes ;)
What is the reason given on the ticket for the penalty? If it was on a pavement you are not allowed to park unless it says so. We have something similar near my office where Bikes can park on one side of the pavement but not the other.

i had a go at them down the phone today, but they said i'll have to post a letter explaining why i shouldnt have a ticket. i wasnt on the road, so iu cant see why they can do me for it.
the ticket says that im in a unloading/unloading restricted area, as if i'm doing any of that.
the bicycle thing on the tax disc sounds a good idea, i'll try that.
Couple of things here Rick
1 Any representation has to be in writing
2 When you say you were not on the road they cant do you for it, you mean the ticket or the road tax thing? Eiethr way you'll probably find they can
3 The Loading/Unloading reason. It will be you word against the Warden's. Unless you have pictures showing you did not commit that offence it is very unlikely they will let you off.
4. Try the disc thing, but they will still have seen your number off your number plate, so make sure you say your number plate was also covered.
5. Can't you say you were not the rider at the times? some family/friend visting from Australia or sumthin?
6. There is no harm in trying, it will only cost you 29p for postage, just make sure you do not go over the saet limits.
You can definitely be done when your not on the road, Lambeth's parking wardens latest favourite 'Two wheels on the pavement' - clearly for cars but they used it on the bike and loads of cars down our way where the 1 inch curb means people quite often get half a tire up on it.
But it varies depending where you are, Wandsworth will let you park on the pavement as long as you aren't an obstruction (rule of thumb is could you get a double buggy past apparently) and they'll let you park a bike in any bay, resident permit area or not as long as your not on a yellow line. AND all their bike bays have ground anchors. Must be a biker or two at the parking authority I reckon ;)
4. Try the disc thing, but they will still have seen your number off your number plate, so make sure you say your number plate was also covered.
They need to check the number on the tax disc in order to legally issue a ticket. The number plate alone is not enough.
As for parking on the pavement, another technicality to get out of a ticket is for neither of the bike's wheels to be touching the ground. If a small piece of wood were underneath each wheel (take a photo) they can't issue a ticket.

right, lets get some things straight. i was showing my tax disc, so i cant do them for that, and its not a normal pavement. its an area where they let people lock push bikes, with a tree, and some steps going down the other side. ill get a pic for you lot later. ive wrote them a letter on the computer, does that count or does it have to be hand written???

i work in blackpool in the building industry, i park my bike on the pavement all the time, near a lamp post (which people will have to walk around anyway  ). we have the local council bod come down every so often and he fined all the cars parked on traffic calming widened pavements but said mine and a colleauges bikes were ok as not blacking pedestrians/vision.
worth a try but good luck, at the end of the day you are not really supposed to park on the pavement and we all kinda know that

What if they have noted the number on the disc and then you say it wasn't there culdn't you get in more bother?
Yes. So if you lie, make sure it's bomb-proof ;).
It would be rare for a ticket issued to a bike to have the tax disc number noted (even though it's the correct procedure) as it's usually in an unacceptably inconvenient place and is often covered in crud so they don't tend to bother.
