please can you settle an argument between me and one of my collegues, he says that when you fall off you should have an equal chance of falling off the left as you do the right side of the bike. I agree theoretically but believe that I have sold more single bungs and spares for one side of bikes rather than the other. please can you settle this with voting on the poll.
I am aware you can only vote once so if you can vote taking your last accident as gospel when voting but please if you can remember which you have fallen more on then please post it below and dont let that reflect in your vote.

I remember when I had the ZZR 250 there was a theory that most people fell off on the right under braking because that is the side with the brake disc on.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Joe what about backwards :?:

Thats how i came off !!!!!

p.s. when the bike went flying through the air (complet with somersault) it landed on it's top and then on it's right hand side (just so you can add it to your stats mate  )

You should go down more on your dominant side because when you realise your ging to crash you try and stick your arm out to protect you, this pushes the bar away, forcing that side of the bike down (congratulations, you've just learned counterstearing), or if disconnected from the bar already you will be leaning to your dominant side.

Therefore lefties should fall more to the left, righties to the right, as more people are right handed than left more right hand bits will be needed.

Of course even if you're a leftie, sod's law will intervene if you've just put a nice new £400 exhaust system on the right ;)

I'm totally left sided but my drops have been to right... Well the damage was but I was in mid air and didn't see which way the bike went first :?

I voted right anyway

Accordign to Fred, from Bike safe North London, Bikers can't do left turns or was it right? Well either way that would mean more falls on one side than the other?

.last time you fell off was it rh side or lh side?

So why didn't you just say that?

What does it matter? Surely the question should be: have you fallen off more times on the left, or more times on the right, or both the same?

Left turns are easier, but carry a greater risk in this country.

left, right, left so far i just need another right to balance it all out. does laying it to the right count as i screwd a turn in a drive which was on a camber and started to topple and decided not to try to stop it without any damage. if it does count then i will have a left, right, right, left

.because theoretically it should be even and didn't want people's opninons of the side they thnk they remember falling off on more the fact so decided that to keep it accurate you should only vote for your last accident. why is it important? because I have half kits of R&G's out numbering whole kits and cant make a complete kit out of any of them! I was gonna order some spares! oh and it might settle an argument ;)

That would be both sides for me I am afraid. Err actually now that you mention right in the middle also when I was a little over zealous on a mate's TS100 Suzuki trial bike! Looped the loop right in front of him! (Ah come on I was only a kid!)Plus a clip of the nearside wing of a motor catching the right side of bike when some tool pulled out on me when I was a sweet little 17 year old!

Almost managed to drop the Duke on Sunday though! Very slow manouvre of a U turn on gravelly surface, due to this I was I actually had my feet on the deck taking a bit of weight only the left f*cker slipped!

A 749 aint no Goldwing but at a 45º lean it took some bringing back up I tell you.My feet were still trying to slide again but I was determined it wasnt going to happen! :? 8)

Ill bet you sell more right crash bungs than left ones.
Driving on the left we do more right turning than left, hence the right side of the tyre wears more than the left, and therefore the chances of falling while doing a right turn are higher.
Also,a crash while doing a left hander is more dangerous than a right hander because you are likely to hit oncoming traffic,so you are possibly more careful on left hand bends? My theories, all rubbish but makes you think. :?

I best add to this then, 7 times on my righty none on my left!

I've hit the ground four times, everytime left hand side of the bike took the hit - much cheaper to fix that way you know ;)

Bike's been knocked over twice by the neighbours, right side both times (obviously).

I've never 'fallen' off... jumped vertically (don't ask), buried in the side of a van (so upright there then), and had a rather interesting mid-air collision with another bike (which concluded in a bit of a tangled mess, no sides, just metal + flesh + many bent bits).

I was forced to deck it once though, does that count?
If so = left. But it was through concious choice as I could jam my left foot on the road to help stabilise whilst still being able to use the back brake.

In the same situation now though I'd probably switch to the right as my left knee is the weak one... though now I think about it my left knee was also buggered back then (only not quite as badly) and I still jammed that down so I could still operate the brake.

Hmmm, so on reflection I don't know where I fit!

I would have thought that most people would drop to the right... but only because in most crash situations on UK roads you have a better chance of an escape route to your right, therefore are more likely to be heading at that angle.

I voted for the right, although, my 'off' was a head-on, so I didn't fall with the bike - I landed way up the road!! The bike fell to the right though!

My trackday 'off' was also on the right hand side and when I had my famous stoppie 'incident' in the car park at SELKent, I fell to the right too! That was a matter of choice though, as my right leg is stronger than my left and I thought I could catch the bike!

Don't forget that if you fall off on track, that most circuits are clockwise circuits, so you are generally going to be leaning to the right for more of the distance of the circuit. There are also more right hand corners on tracks than left, most of the time.

I have fallen on the right twice.. but remember the camber of most roads runs down to the left, thus the bike falls on the right and rounderbouts go right. So the number oft right falls is liable to go up. If we lived in the states and had nice flat roads then this would be true. But we don't.

Three times, always on the right.

Two on right hand bends, the other whilst stationary

Glad it was the old bike though!

On road right x2, both times during low speed manoevers (on trails every way, including backwards  ).

Fortunately the can is on the left on the GS

Voted never fallen off by mistrake.

You're naturally going to drop the SV on the RHS since that's where the expensive exposed exhaust is :) If you were to fit twins, say, or something equally expensive sticking out the left, then you'd get an exact 50/50 split. It's like dropping buttered toast.

Also, i suppose that the weight distribution is skewed slightly off to the right.

3 times on the left. Not accidents. 2 were when I left the disc lock on and tried to set off  and once when I left the bike on the stand with the engine running and it vibrated itself off

Bet I,m the only one who can say both in the same accident.......

I went over the handle bars but when the bike came to rest the front end was snapped off and laying on its left and the back end was on it's right.

I voted right as thats where most of the bike ended up.

One time on the left: two years ago I stalled the engine while
parking the bike at work and lost balance as a result (speed 0 mph).
No damage though: the R&G's did their job + my fat (according to my
wife) body got sandwiched between the bike and tarmac.

Left X 1

Voted left as more recent and more serious.
