Right.. Im going to change my spark plugs sooner rather than later...
I have no ide if I need to change them or not?? i.e. different type ??
They seem to be a tad wet when I took them out.... oily, petrol type stuff on the end...
does that mean anything?? or shall I just wap in like-for-like ??
Cheers!
NGK CR8Es are the ones. I've just put in the CR9Es as I'm about to put in the ignition advance key* and so the engine should theoretically be running hotter.
The standard plugs are pretty cheap so I'd bung some in ASAP.
* For Northwind's information I've just picked up the gasket from the dealer today

Might mean mixture is running on the rich side.

Well, Im now running with a Remus exhaust... that might have done something!
It says in the owners manual to use CR7E if standard plug is apt to get wet.
Question is, wet from what?? water ? or petrol ??
cheers!
mate wet plugs is 100% normal, i spent the last few months geting mine wet, u want wet plugs. It will be petrol on them, 1005 normal and u definatly want them to be wet, if they anit ur in ****

I think Bikerz meant that you're better off running rich than lean.
But wet plugs aint normal. Wet plugs mean either water has got in there or its running to rich. They should be dry.

I've just bought 2 NGK CR9E plugs for the SV, will these make any difference compared to the standard CR8E?
No mods apart from a Scorpion exhaust.

I've also noticed that the new Hein Gericke catalogue offers different spark plugs for new vs. curvy models. Any reason why or is it just a typo?

They run cooler so might possibly make the bike harder to start.

I just fitted a set of Iridiaum CR8EIX that I picked up off Ebay... I've not ridden it yet, but it certainly seems to start better. The old ones were in good nick and only about 500 miles old so I don't think it's just the new for old effect.
I doubt they're really worth the extra money to be honest, but these weren't much more than the shop price for the normal ones so I thought I'd give 'em a crack. I'll see how they ride...
Wetness could just be condensation, The way to tell if it's rich or lean is to check the colour of the plug. Should not be black, should not be white. A nice pale shade of grey is what you want.
White deposits on the plug means it's burning oil.
