View Full Version : Engine switching off
Hi peeps. I fitted a Blueflame full system on my bike yesterday and this morning I noticed the engine was switching off a few times a very low speed. I had teh same exhaust before, so only thing that's changed is the pipes. Do you think the fact that I changed the pipes could have anything to do with this? I also had this a few times before, but it seems more frequent now.
idle set too low, possably

Yes - it probably means that the pipes are doing their job!!
Race pipes are designed to allow air to flow quicker and more freely out of the engine, so you would need more air (and fuel) to go in!
Have you changed your air filter to suit?
If you have a curvy SV, have you had the jetting adjusted to suit and if it's a K3+ bike, you would ideally need the ignition re-mapping with either a yoshi-box tune or a Power Commander.
In the meantime, increasing the idle speed may well help
Seems a common things with sv's. You are riding along and the engine just goes dead.. but you are able to start it up again no problem immediately.... Will do this and then nothing for a month and then will do it again out of the blue.. strange but some reckon it the idle, but my idle is fine..so ...?
It's a K4 and I was told I wouldnt need to do a remap. But suppose I now have an excuse for a Power Commander ;)

you could dish out lots for a PC, otherwise there are dealers with a Yohi box that can remap the stock ECU

I think it would be cheaper to find a dealer with a Yoshi box and then just get your original ecu remapped. Or eventhe factory pro equivelent the Teka box.
I think I remeber that http://www.stevejordanmotorcycles.com/
charged around £50 for this (???)

Yep - A 'Yoshi tune' should only cost sround the £50 mark as a maximum, including dyno runs.
The PC is theoretically better than a remap but on the road you won't notice the difference... I believe that Steve Jordan doesn't even use a PC in his race bikes!
You won't need a remap with just an end can but add an air filter to balance things out more and you get to the stage of needing one. Once you have a full system, it makes sense to have it done... I got a 5bhp gain when I had my K3 remapped & all I'd done was a Scorpion slip-on and K&N filter as well as the TRE & TPS mods.
Nut beware... Only get the remap done once you have done everything to the engine you want to do. I took out the TEE mod from mine & the power just disappeared - put it back in & all was fine again!

Out of curiousity, how do you find the Blue Flame full system? I knew they did one but you're the first person I can think of to have one fitted.
If you fitted a full system and didn't have to rejet/remap, there's something wrong with the system :) IIRC What Steve Jordan usually does is basically ride the bike around and work out what needs doing, then adjust to suit- less precise than a full dyno work up but far more cost effective it seems. If you're considering a filter, air kit or desnorkel, do all that before you get it mapped.
Mike1234 mentioned that the Teka boxes seem more effective recently, I think.
It's absolutely not a common thing for an SV to just cut out while riding, by the way, that's a sign that something important is Not Right.
Only had the system for a day so havent got much feel. Not sure it is much diffrent from having had the can only. According to some it should add about 7bhp, bit still waiting to check that.
Dont want to do too much to the bike, have spent quite a bit on it already. So may just go for the filters and that's about it.
Hi guys, thanks for all your help. The problem seems to have stopped. Didn't happen last night or this morning. May be the new pipe and engone just needed to get to know each other.
