G'day all!
Daz from Australia here.
I am in the process of looking at buying my second bike.
I've had a Honda VTR250 (small 250 cc Vtwin) which i sold 3 months ago.
I've got money burning in my back pocket and am looking at either a Honda Hornet 600 or the naked SV650.
I'm sure you lot will all tell me the advantages of the SV, but i'd like to know honest opinions for an all round 'sportish bike'.
I do prefer the twins, but if the inline four will go alot harder, i will consider them both.

Hi and welcome.

Both good choices. I looked at both before I settled on the SV. Hornet was a bit buzzy (for me) as you had to ride it further up the rev range. At the time, the buy price and the insurance made it a bit of a no brainer for me so I went with the SV. Try both if you can. Both good bikes. Jabba the Hut and Sythree both have Hornets and they seem pretty pleased with their purchases.

Having ridden both (my dad has a hornet) i think it would boil down to what your going to use it for.

The SV has loads of useable power, perfect for commuting and town riding, and when you need to get some scratching done, theres enough bike for that too.

But the Hornet, if your just looking for a toy, then the hornet would be great, powerband kicks in about 7500-8000 revs all the way up the rev range, but there isnt a great amount of torque before that, although more than a supersport 600 mind.

Whatever you choose you will be chuffed i reckon

Welcome to the board mate. Couple of people here have Hornets, I'm sure some of them will turn up shortly to try and convince you to get one of those instead, but you know you need the SV :)

Seriously though, I've not ridden a hornet, but the only comment I'd make is that a couple of mate have them and they don't seem to ever really get to the sort of speeds (as it's a naked bike) for it to really shine over an SV. I did meet an old guy who had been riding for years and said he thought the hornet was the best road bike (he had a firestorm before) due to the sense of speed it gave. I suppose the SV is similar- it's not ludicrously fast (in bike terms), but the sense of speed is fantastic.

Personally, I am very very happy with my SV, as much power as I normally want (only during overtakes at license losing speeds does it really feel underpowered), comparatively cheap to buy/maintain, handles like a dream once the suspension and tyres are sorted and it's very practical for round town/commuting and carrying luggage.

before i brought the sv, i was debating on which one to go for between the bandit 600, hornet, fazer, and the sv. i talk to a dealer i know, and he happened to ahve an sv he ook in part exchange. i looked at a couple of the other bikes and was quite impressed with them, but it wasnt untill i fired the sv up that i new that was the bike for me. it doesnt rev as high, deosnt sound so screamy, and if you get a decent end can or full system on it they sound awsome, so many people look round.
and not many people tend to have v's, they like to go for inline 4's.
its all up to personal taste though. have a ride on a couple, if you cant, read through some magazines and get some idea's with what sounds right for you.
