Cleaning the bike today decided to have a go at the fornt forks which are showing circa 7 areas of pitting. Tried some metal polish with very fine wire wool, didnt seem to make any difference. Any tips? also assuming I can rectify these marks anny advice to protect them in the future?
Cheers

Hmm you could probably get them covered in clear lacquer or similar which would delay the onset of corrosion? Failing that how about powder coating them in a chrome finish?

I coated mine, it seems to be either that, dodgy patch-up refinishing, or complete polishing or painting. The coating cost £20 for both legs, plus the cost of new seals and crush washers, and a bit of time of course.

Yeah - I've heard laquer does a good job... or just clear nail varnish for smaller areas... not bothered protecting mine though (yet - maybe once they start to look bad I'll do it in the time-honoured tradition of doing something after the problem has already started...)
Mine cost about £20 for the pair to be polished onced removed. Then it's only a case of coating in laquer or constant re-polishing.....I chose the laquer coatinig :D
