I've never done the actual calculation, but I know it varies massively depending on the sort of riding I'm doing. Between about 85-150 miles before the fuel light comes on, that's almost twice as much fuel used when I go mental

54 mpg... doing 130 miles a day in all sorts of conditions and traffic..
Oh and in a 2001 model...

Roughly 58mpg, but it depends. :D

Normally about 60ish. Sometimes more, sometimes less...

About 62 on long haul motorway stuff, don't know (or care!) when having a thrash! Average about 160 miles between fill ups when commuting. :D

I get 120 to a tank, end of story.

Now that I've bothered to do the sums, here's the results of the C'philly Jury...

Based on my average filling stop of 13.5 ltr (that's 2.95 UK gallons)

I was averaging 120 to the light - that's 37.2 mpg

now that I've switched to mainly BP Ultimate

I average 145 to the light - that's 49.1 mpg

Now where did I put my Anorak!

The Caerphilly Jury has been at the vodka again.

13.5 litres is 2.97 gallons. 120 miles in 2.97 gallons is 40.4mpg

Now where did I put my Anorak!

Left it in the ale-house, I suspect

Just loved the bold text - it was the certainty of it that made me laugh

25% approx better with the premium fuel. That's impressive.

For the record, I rarely get less than 140miles on about 13 litres of normal fuel from my supposedly thirsty Hornet

It was Carsick that set me off

I searched around in my bag for my receipts, did my maths (not particularly carefully I admit - rounding up a bit here and down there).

Just on the point of submitting and Carsick admits he's joking.

I've used that BP stuff and I didn't notice much of a difference.. is the air thicker where you are or something?

Gave up with the expensive stuff on the bike as I didn't notice too much diff (there was some)...

The car is a diff stoey though...

Three tanks of Shell V-Power, now using normal shell fuel. Went form 600km's per tank to 700km's per tank. I'm happy - just hope it stays :)

Sorry, the change in fuel is not the only variable, since signing up for the IAM test etc. I've been trying to ride the "proper" way. Additionally I'm doing less stop/start as I'm avoiding the commuter crush.

i get between 100-150 miles to a tank.

By rough calculations city trafic is 100 miles to a tank so about 30-35mpg and other times i get about 150 miles to a tank so about 45mpg, i dont realy care the millage i get as long as it is above 100 miles to the tank.

Most of my travel is in the city with tonnes of lights between me and my destinations. So its never going to be great, on average i tank up about 1-2 times a week depending if i go out on the wends.

It's a lame topic but to be topical I was amazed at when I took it relatively easy I achieved 75 mpg over 600 miles. Try that in a car!

My running costs... (http://www.krose.plus.com/peter/Mech_SV_Costs.pdf)
In the last 22849 miles I've used 2198 litres of fuel... that's 47.22 miles per gallon (10.4 miles per litre)
(2000 SV S, ridden 50% motorway, 50% B roads (usually commuting))

Do you ever go more than 30mph?

Mine is decidedly less impressive  - I'd be lucky to get 110 - 120 miles on mine.

Others will testify as to my speed/riding style. Don't think I'm known as a kerb-crawler

Ah, but what mpg are you getting? I ask because the Hornet tank is notoriously difficult to brim properly due to an air-space at the top of the tank. The last half-litre or so has to be dribbled in very slowly unless the filling station allows you to sit on the bike so that you can rock it gently from side to side - a movement known as "The Hornet Boogie".

This is part of the reason why road testers complain about the poor tank range.

On a recent mixed motorway/A-road run through the Cotswolds I fill-up at 176 miles and the fuel light still hadn't come on......worked out at a little over 58mpg.

And it wasn't me who had to stop for fuel on the last S&WS run out

Not many.

My light starts flashing around 170 miles and I regularly get 200 before it goes steady and I have to chicken out and fill it up.

One recent example:
Light on (flashing) at 175 miles
Fill at 201 miles with 14.2 litres (3.12 gall)

64.35mpg?

Clunk
26-05-05, 02:33 PM
On the SV about 45-50 mpg.
On the 125 about 80 mpg
In the car about 45mpg

Speed Triple 1050 - 38.5mpg from the last fill up, if I've calculated it correctly - 110 miles, exactly 13 litres. It's a thirsty beast.

This time I did 100 miles until the light came on, but that's actually higher than normal. I think that I've had as low as 85 and it's still running in!

Other owners have also confirmed that their fuel consumption is similar. I'll try some premium stuff like Optimax and see if that makes any difference.

Check out Esso Energy Supreme (97 RON) which I reckon is every bit as good as Optimax and Ultimate but is a fair bit cheaper.

75 mpg was achieved because I feck all cash on my return leg through france and belgian to calais. I just used common sense, got into 6th ASAP and kept the speed down since air resistance qualruples when the speed doubles. I stuck around 60 mph tucked in and didn't give any big hands which wastes fuel. I know I looked rediculous tucked in at 60 but I did what I had to do. As to the difference tucking in made at 60 I've no idea but over 600 miles probably 10% or so?

Mines exceptionaly economical because its an import and the speedo is in kilometres.
