View Full Version : Cleaning exhaust off the bike
So,
I've a twin carbon underseat renegade system :love: sitting on my desk in need of a very good clean, is there anything anyone recommends?
I tried wirewool attached to a dremel and the autoglym metal polish on my current rene high level but i wasn't 100% happy with the results (plus it took forever and scratched).
Tips and hints please!
thanks
so it was you was it
furniture polish I was told does the trick on my twin rene carbons
I think WD40 and a rag is also a good idea on MY Rene's.

A 3m Scotchbrite pad is like voodoo when you're bringing up dodgy metalwork... You can get them in any Homebase, they're not cheap compared to steel wool but work superbly, and last for ages.

I'm sure I clean my dishes with one of those...
I'll pop out and get one today, i trust they don't scratch?
Furniture polish and WD40, should be a explosive mix

Similiar to dish pads but a bithtougher, really. They do scratch if you use presuure- basically you press hard to shift corrosion or deep scratches, then use them more lightly to finish. I wouldn't use oil or polish along with them, just use them by themselves then use metal polish to finish up if you want.

go to hein gericke and buy one of their polishing kits for 16 quid, and attach it to a drill, dean (carlesschucca) or one of the other ecosse posse will be along to tell you how shiny mines turned out :D
and trust me, it looked like it had been sunk in a tank of salty water for a year previous to using it

If the system is off the bike, get them polished with a good set of proper polishing mops - they'll come up a treat ;) - even better, take them to a metal polisher & you'll get a floorless finish (until you re-fit them & they'll get cacked up in no time  )

I looked through the catalogue but couldn't find anything #-o
Cloggsy, where to get proper polishing mops?
North, i'll go and grab one on the way home from b&q or somesuch, i checked halfrauds but couldn't find anything. I jsut want to do the downpipes, mid section and the cans and the less elbow grease i put in the better, i like the sound of things that attach to drills :)
Send it to me, ill clean them!
Promise ill give them back........
